2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 DuffMan (4427) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, - AUG 30, 2009
Bottle, brought over by neighbours. Pours a clear deep golden with a finely bubbled white head showing medium retention. Aroma is sweet, with some corn syrup and banana notes. The flavours are sweet and bready with the same subtle banana fruit that is in the aroma. Mouthfeel is surprisingly heavy, a little sticky even, but the finish dries right up. If I were to guess the ABV I’d put it over 5%, so this is kind of an odd duck. It actually has some decent flavour for a macro lager, but the mouthfeel and balance are off.

Drinks easy and leaves you thinking about other more interesting brews better than DB export which is not really hard

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20 jimthechap (795) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - FEB 23, 2012
Typical lager colour with a white head that duly sunk into the glass. Aromas of lighter malts and a dash of hops, but not a great deal. However, broadly speaking this doesn’t smell like a beer I wouldn’t want to drink. Tastes cool but largely tasteless. A little sweet at first, but after that it becomes water charged with farts. It had the makings of something not too bad, but lost it mid way through.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 mkel07 (1808) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - OCT 30, 2010
330ml bottle. Clear, bright golden amber with a soft white head of loosely packed foam. Malt and corn aroma with a matching flavour that feels okay in the mouth.

Canette, bière blonde commerciale «DRY» des bières qui n’ont pas d’arrière goût car elles n’ont pas de goût, point. C’est vraiment un produit inintéressant.
2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20 beer4eternity (199) - Tauranga, NEW ZEALAND - DEC 23, 2009
330ml bottle. Gold hue, clear, small white slowly diminishing floculant head, some lacing, Aromas are mild biscuit caramel bread hay corn banana dough. Flavour is light to medium sweet initially, nothing in the middle then medium sour finish. Palate is watery body, thin texture, average carbonation going flat quickly, astringent sour and chalky finish.
I had low expectations of this beer and to start with the appearance was ok, the aromas were better than I expected but then the taste and palate was not so good, the sour taste was not a good kind of sour in a Hoegaarden sour kind of way. Suprised most by its lack of hop influence. Well done to them for being judged worlds best lager 1994.
1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 phaleslu (3544) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - OCT 20, 2009
Draft at the Blue Duck in Milford Sound. I honestly couldn’t tell the difference between this (blue tap label) and the Export Gold (gold tap label). Pours clear gold with a small white head. Grainy, corny, and just a little bit of hops. Dry compared to the Gold, so there’s your difference. Typical pale lager- bland, inoffensive, easy to drink in large quantities, instantly forgettable.
1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 sdriessen (318) - Dunedin, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 8, 2009
Tasted before the whole DB/radler debacle!
Thin, white head, doesn’t last.
Smells like speights. Sweet malt, tiny amounts of hop. Where did this win best lager exactly??
Flavours are of that same sugary malt, some lemon characteristics.
Crisp, cold and fizzy. Always dissapointed by the complete lack of hops :( Maybe I’m expecting too much?
Definitely not the best lager in my books.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 yalnikim (800) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - APR 18, 2007
Tasted 18/04/2007. 330ml bottle from Roti Chenai.
Slightly stale malts and sugary nose. A touch of fruity NZ hops, probably one of the Hallertau derivatives I guess. Deepish hued bright gold, with a white head that tries to persist. Fairly weighty in the mouth, sweet malts - lager malt, a little cara and slightly sugary. Almost no discernible hop character in the mouth. and an off-dry finish. I’d imagine a very fresh example could be an ok tasting macro lager. More character than most.

330ml ’special’ of the father-in-law. Bright golden, vigorus white head but clears quickly. Quite sweet, floral soft biscuits with caramel. Sweet malt no hops and anything but dry. When I was young I thought this was quite a cool sophisticated drink. Funny how times change!
