COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We have been long-anticipating our first collaboration with DC’s 1st production brewery in 55 years, DC Brau, and we are psyched to announce that the Bluejacket/ DC Brau brew will be poured for the very 1st time during the 4th annual DC Beer Week! This is our take on a long-forgotten style, Grodziskie-Gratzer, a low abv, smoked wheat ale with a strong hop presence...dutifully called Embers of the Deceased, or--in German if you like--"Asche des Verstrobenen"!

Tap at PPD. Mega 16oz mug pour. Pours full haze straw. Webby white lace. Nose is mild smoked malt, oily bacon, lemon peel, orange pulp. Taste begins with sharp citric acid, minerals, lemonade moving to thick as hell buttery biscuit on the verge of diacetyl bomb. Finish is clean and herbal hoppy. Has that faux diacetyl richness and mega biscuit character. Smoked character is evident and very soft. Very good. Best bluejacket experiment thus far. +1 for good session beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Pours hazy gold with a white head. Light smoky malts up front, followed by some weird herbal and lemony notes, a light sweetness, and a very wheaty finish. An odd one, comes close to being really good, but not quite.

Sampled at DC Brau. Pours a hazy, straw color with some thin white head. Nose is mild, lightly smokey, a little malty, dried leaves, a little dried orange peel. Flavor is vitamin C tablets, buttered biscuit, buttered popcorn jelly beans, light creamed corn, some mild smoke. Wasn’t impressed.

On tap at Pizzeria Paradiso -- Dupont. Lightly tart with a heavy wheat base and a bit of background smoke. Very dry and quite easy to drink. Prickly carbonation

Had this at the source, DC Brau. Poured a cloudy yellow color, medium sized white head. Aroma was a bit funky, with some sweetness and citrus lemon notes to it. Flavor had some bread in it and some citrus there. For being a smoked beer, I didn’t get a whole lot of smoke!

Tap. Pours hazy golden yellow with a small white head and little lacing. Aroma is subdued smoke and ash along with notes of malt and wheat. Flavor is lightly sweet with smoke and wheat notes, plus a faint touch of citrus. No real bitterness. Impressive complexity for a 3.7% beer.

On tap 4 oz. pour at Meridian Pint in Columbia Heights, Washington, DC. Clear, straw-yellow with small off-white head and excellent lacing. Aroma if bread, roasted malt, biscuit malt, lemon, horse blanket and light smoke. Taste of bread, spice, wet straw and light smoke. Medium/light body and medium carbonation. A fine mildly smoked beer. Not robust enough to hold its own against a burger and catsup, but fine on its own. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap. Light clearish orange yellow with a white head. Some citrus, fatty smoked meat that’s fairly light, some grains in the aroma as well. Not overwhelmingly smoky, some burnt toast, and a slight sweetness. Lighter body. Strange brew.
