COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At first glance “NATAS” is pitch black in the glass with wafting aromas of burnt sugar and caramelized fruit. The mouthfeel is silky smooth with hints of cocoa. It has a gentle, warming phenolic character that begs for a follow-up inquiry. The hops are used to balance this brew and lend a subtle complexity. The dark lord himself would be proud to serve this hellish offering to his legions of demonic minions. For those technical among you, here are some stats on the beer: “NATAS” Belgian-Style Imperial Porter 7.5% ABV Yeast: Wyeast 1762 Belgian Abbey II Hops: Gr. Perle, Nugget, Fuggles and Columbus

Draft at DC Brau. Pours very dark maroon, medium brown head with fair retention and good lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee, dates, prunes, dark cocoa. Taste is dark fruits in a background of roasted malts. Subtle and understated with lots of character. Finally, a porter that isn’t a chocolate syrup bomb. A successful collaboration, I think.

5-6 oz draft pour at Of Love & Regret. Black with tan head. Aromas of cocoa, chocolate, vanilla. Tastes of chocolate, vanilla, roast, cream, herbs, spices, Belgian yeast. Medium-full body with a dry finish. Creamy mouthfeel, medium-low carbonation. Tasty.

Pours thick dark as night with a darker bright beige head. Aroma is roasty coffee and dark chocolate cacao, so nice and rich! Flavor roasted dark malts and dark chocolate as well, on a smooth body not too thick at all! It is rich with roast but not overbearing at all.

[Draft @ Smith Commons] Dark brown / black with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, light pine, caramel, cocoa, and light spices. Taste of much the same, with spices toned down a bit, some tobacco, and piney hops with a dry finish. Light alcohol

Growler from the release, thanks to travlr! Pours a dark brown with a small head. Nose holds dark fruit, roasted malt, and coffee. The flavor brings more plum, vanilla, and mocha. Quite nice.

Pours black, with a tan head. No light escapes. The smell is roasty caramel and some light date aroma. Tastes a little roast, a little fruity, and has a bit of baking chocolate thrown in. Vanilla? Perhaps. Feels fantastic, no doubt about it.

Awesome with great balance. Tastes like oatmeal stout with light honey sense possibly from burnt sugar. Pours black with good head and lacing. Finishes with light sweetness. Nice roast profile. To hell with summer session beers, this is where it’s at. Keep in mind my great rating of this beer could be in comparison to all the trash I’ve had today. On tap at DC Summerfest.
