We crafted our fond farewell to summer as a collaboration with John Solomon and Chris Frashier. The pair are well known for their fine (and tasty!) work at Old Dominion in Ashburn, VA, during the mid 90’s.

"EL HEFE SPEAKS!" is a traditionally brewed German-style Hefe. It is fermented around 65° F and hopped with German Tettnang hops. 11 IBUs and 5.3% ABV make this one extremely drinkable. Perfect for the start of September.

Canned. Yellow cloudy pour. Bananas cloves etc. Pretty decent hefe, but unspectacular.

Can. Pours a hazy yellow color with a thin white head. Wheaty aroma with a hint of lemon zest. Smooth, banana flavor with a strong sense of wheat and malt. A little lemon finish. Very drinkable and delightful.

Drank from a can. Very traditional taste for a hefe. Crisp and light, heavy on the wheat taste as expected. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz can from Wine Source. Pours hazy orange, decent white head with good lacing. Aroma is citrusy and wheat/yeast. Body is pretty substantial for a wheat beer. Moderate carbonation, smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is sort of strange: yeasty, but also some out-of-the-ordinary happiness, lemon, bitterness of the finish. This is nothing like Schneider or Weihenstephaner offerings, but a unique DC take on the wheat beer. Not bad, just not German.

Can. Pours hazy golden with a mediun creamy off white head that dissipates quickly leaving decent lacing. Aroma is wheat and clove. Flavor is same, quite clovey, just a hint of banana. Light body, rich mouthfeel.

Well done for style with nice light citrus and some good banana and bread yeast elements. Pours cloudy yellow. OK head and lacing. Light sweet finish with note of hay. Tap at meridian pint.

From a can at home. Pours a clear gold with a thick white head. Banana nose. Flavors of juicy fruit gum and lemon. Crisp clean finish.

This hefe is a good tribute to summer. The slightly heavier taste makes it slightly unusual. The banana taste is interesting and worth having again.

Wheat and alcohol aroma. Taste of banana and wheat. Fairly smooth palate. Not bad.

Very comparable to the German equivalents. Slightly heavier body but with that banana quality that you grow to love.
