COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Two years ago, Fight Club—a secret, underground skateboard park near Penn Quarter in DC—closed for good, much to the chagrin of area skateboarders. Two of those skateboarders, Jeff Hancock of DC Brau Brewing and Jason Oliver of Devils Backbone Brewing, vowed to collaborate and name a brew in honor of the DIY spot.

Brewed with a traditional German lager yeast and Noble German hops, Fight Club Anti-Gravity Lager’s appearance is deep gold with a medium body and smooth, rich lager finish. It is 7.2% ABV. “Long live Fight Club,” said Hancock, “and the many great years of skating that took place there.”

Tap. Lighter golden yellow with some haze. Citrusy hops, some sweet light fruits and regular pale lager aromas. Mostly clean lager flavors, lemon, some sweetness, and a slightly bitter finish. Medium soft body.

Serving: Draft at Fire Works Leesburg. It pours a hazy amber color with a slight head. The nose is a bit nondescript with some sweetness. The flavor has light honey taste with lots of malt and just too much sweetness. Lacks balancing bitterness. My initial reaction was "It’s craft malt liquor" and lo and behold, it’s listed as a malt liquor!

On draft at DC Brau. Pours a clear, bright gold with some soft white head. Nose is fairly simple, sticky fruit, artificial sugar, orange, corn, carboard. Flavor is overly sweet, wet paper bag, cloyingly sweet, oranges. Big, sticky, sweet finish. Just too much sugar.

Served on draft at the 1st Annual Virginia Craft Brewers Fest, Devils Backbone. 8/25/12. Pours a hazy peach color with a thin white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of stone fruits, caramel malts and faint bitterness. The taste is sweet malts, stone fruits and a light tartness. Medium bodied.

Tap at PPD. Pours hazy golden. Small white, creamy head. Nose is muted. Sweet orange and some funk. Taste is bitter, heavy orange, sweet orange soda. Much too sweet for me. Eh. Pretty cloying with heavy sweet white alcohol like an artificial screwdriver. Comes across as very medicinal like ornate flavored oral dissolvable tablets. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Hazy yellow color, solid white head, delicate lacing. Aroma of white pepper, straw, hay. Taste is fruity straw, hay. One of the tastiest lagers I’ve had.

Had this at the source, DC Brau. This one poured a slightly cloudy yellow color with a large white head that dissipated quickly. Nice malty character to it, notes of sweetness. Not too bad.
