And so it was written.......
According to Mayan and Hopi calendars the "transition from one world age to another" will happen on December 21, 2012. As an homage to the "transition" DC Brau has concocted an Imperial IPA named "On the Wings of Armageddon".

Can via Sloth in trade. Rich and deeply malty, this sucker creeps up on you and lets you know that you are done for the night about halfway thru the glass. Consumed on my porch... which should be an UNESCO world heritage site. A perfect way to end a mental stress laden day. Bert!

Cloudy orange beer with a medium bright white head. Resinous nose of pine, orange pith, and candle wax. Flavor is more of the same with juicy citrus, pine resin, and mandarin orange over a fairly sweet malty core. Not incredibly bitter, but full of hop flavor, this is a solid IPA that hides its alcohol content well.

Can at Max?s in Baltimore. Aromas of citrus, grapefruit, straw, flowers, and tropical fruit. Flavors biscuit, melon, a little hop bitterness/pine, resin, mango and other tropical fruit. A very juicy and delicious beer with a soft sweetness. Very mellow for the 9.2% ABV.

On tap at R.F.D. in DC. Coming from the NW, this IIPA came off in taste at least, as a normal NW IPA. The extra oomph from the elevated ABV wasnít readily apparent .Hoppy for some palates, but tame for others.

12 oz can. Iím not really a fan of East coast ipas but this won was good. Malt and hops were very well balanced and alcohol was hidden well.

Pours a hazy, bright golden orange/tangerine color with lighter apricot colored edges and a one finger frothy white head that very quickly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Sporadic spotty lacing left behind. Very nice color but the retention isnít very good. Floral earthy hop aroma with dank resins, fresh cut grass and earthy pine countered by candied topical fruit sweetness a sweet malt backbone and a touch of booze. Earthy quality isnít as strong as suspected with some grass and pine but the citrus/tropical fruit presence really stands out with melons, pineapple, ruby red grapefruit and candied orange peel. Sweet caramel malts wih some toffee, biscuit and a grainy cracker presence. A little malt heavy for my preference but otherwise smells pretty good. Full bodied with a blast of dank, sticky hop bitterness that lingers over the sweeter notes, malt backbone and boozy sweetness into a bone dry finish. The earthy bitterness and dank, resinous hop character is much stronger than the nose suggests with dank, sticky nugs, grassy pine and spruce up. This is countered by sweet tropical/citrus fruit. Again, itís very sweet with an almost candied fruit slice character that provides a nice counter to the earthy bitterness. Juicy blood orange and curaÁao along with lemon curd and candied fruit slice. Sweet malt backbone with caramel, toffee and faint toast. Strong boozy sweetness in the finish with lot of alcohol flavor and a decent amount of heat. I usually donít enjoy his but it doesnít interfere with the juicy hop flavors too much. Still, this beer would be amazing if it was a touch less malty and the booze was toned downed three or four notches.

Where: Old Line Fine Wine Spirits & Bistro. How: draft snifter pour. Appearance is cloudy and golden yellowish, small off white head. Aroma is citrus and floral hops, a little grapefruit and lemon. Taste was very malty, not as much hops as I thought there would be. Palate was medium. Overall was a little underwhelmed, not sure if the pour I got was a bit muddled. Need to try again sometime, just in case this was just a bad pour.
