And so it was written.......
According to Mayan and Hopi calendars the "transition from one world age to another" will happen on December 21, 2012. As an homage to the "transition" DC Brau has concocted an Imperial IPA named "On the Wings of Armageddon".

Kurmaraja hooked this can up as an extra when he was just doing me a favor. Ryan is a cool cat.. I appreciate it amigo. 12oz can poured into my Stone Tap-Takeover goblet.. 2 finger off white head.. huge retention and lacing.. the brew is clear orange/amber. Grassy/citrus hoppiness on the nose is muted by way too much pale malt and even a bit of a biscuity/lite caramel maltiness.. very malt forward for a DIPA. Flavor pretty much mirrors the nose.. not a big enough bitter profile to balance the bigger than expected malts.. I would like waaay more hop presence and a much drier brew. Body is too heavy and the carbonation seems too light. Decent brew, but it definitely seems "East Coast".... too much residual maltiness and not nearly enough big-boned hoppiness.

Bottle at Craigís. Sweet, malty, huge hop flavour but a bit too dry and bitter on the finish.

Tasty, angry, and bitter. Aggressively hopped with mild citrus and aggressive pine notes. Huge grassy aroma. Faint malt sweetness, but basically aggressive bitterness on the tongue.

(Can, Stockholm Beer Festival, 4 Oct 2014) Hazy amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, hoppy nose with citrus, grapefruit, resin and lots of fresh hops. Fruity, malty taste with notes of grapefruit, pine needles, resin, caramel and a solid citric/piney bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain malt sweetness. Impressive hop character, and a solid malt structure structure to back it up. Solid DIPA. Excellent beer!

Can - Great piney and caramel notes. Cloudy gold with a rich beige head. Pine and a little resin with a nice caramel balance. A pretty decent beer.

12oz pour at Pizzeria Paradiso D.C. Pours a clear orangeish copper with a nice white head. Aroma is conifers, melon, sap and grapefruit. Flavor is melon, grapefruit, cedar, tropical fruit (mango, passionfruit). Finish is citrus and piney. Medium body, average carbonation. Great.

12 oz can into a pint glass. A: Pours a copper color. The one-finger off-white shaded head is quite dense and thick, and also offers great retention. Thereís also plenty of lacing left on the glass. S: At first, itís a pretty standard DIPA, with primary notes of grapefruit and caramel. But something funny happens once it warms up a bit - it develops some great fruity tones, like apricot, mango, melon, peach, and even some apple. The malts remain moderately prevalent throughout, bringing a more defined breadiness than the average DIPA. Hell, Iím pretty damn impressed. T: A large wave of bitterness hits immediately. While Iím getting a lot of the fruitiness from the aroma, Iím also getting a shitload of weed, especially in the midtaste. The malt integration is excellent - many, MANY DIPAs tend to be too sweet for my tastes, but this oneís malt backbone is balanced well...and complex. Iím getting caramel, toffee, apple, apricot, melon, sugar cookie, mango, and the aforementioned shitload of weed. Itís both contemplatively deep AND a shameless punch in the face - how is that not awesome?! M: Itís medium bodied, dry finishing, and drinkable, but thatís not what makes the feel so great. No, that would be the way the hop resins absolutely coat every inch of the mouth. This feature does a great job of making it seem less sweet than it might really be, and Iím thankful for that. Carbonation is pretty vibrant. O: Gotta love great, local DIPAs like this one. DC Brau hasnít impressed me in the past, but I can safely say this lives up to the hype. I donít know what else to say other than seek it out.

Can thanks to Secret Santa! Pours a clear orange with a golden hue with an off-white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet citrus with a light bitterness and a sweet grain backbone. Flavor combines citrus rind and sweet citrus with a touch of resin and a sweet grain backbone.

Can @ home from Local Swap World Wide Edition, thanks to nimbleprop. Clear orange golden color, medium sized off-white head that diminishes quickly. Aroms is heavy: over the top hops, huge pine and spruce, moderate to heavy maltyness and sticky resin. Taste is heavy malty, insane hoppyness, insane pine and spruce, firm to very bitter and heavy resin. Sticky texture, full body, medium carbonation. I think itís a little too much, a little too far over the top, but I still like the piney bitter that is so dominantly present.

Not a beer Iíd take to a Temple Football tailgate, but when offered gladly accepted. Strong wall of hops leaning on the pine side. Citrus hops take a back seat to the piney flavors. Malts do their damnest to prop up this Hop Bomb. Does go well with smoked ribs in a stadium parking lot.

Can: Poured a light amber color ale with a nice foamy head with excellent retention and some good lacing. Aroma of citrus and piney notes are quite intense but still very enjoyable. Taste is also dominated by citrus and piney notes with some floral notes but not as much as I had expected with a little bit of residual sugars. Body is full with good carbonation. Well brewed and quite enjoyable but maybe not up to those super floral Vermont IPAs.
