Penn Quarter Porter is our first in a line of draft-only limited-release beer, and it’s a robust porter! In the way that The Public is on the line between a pale ale and an IPA, this is on the line between a porter and a stout - with chocolate notes and a dry, roasted finish.

GABF and a bottle after. One of the best porters I’ve had. Brown pour with a brown head. Aroma is full and rich. Lots of chocolate, coffee and some light lactose notes. Flavor is a spot on perfect combination of sweetness and roast. Great chocolate and coffee. Awesome.

12 oz can at Marti and Ilde’s wedding in Maryland. Nice and dark with a good sense of bitterness. There’s a bit of cream thrown in to the mix. Very enjoyable and a great wedding too.

My grateful thanks to Travlr for dragging this across the earth for me and Cantabrian. It appears inky-black in colour with a robust mocha head. What is that smell? It seems like perfumey jasmine with char, cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla, redwood chips, currants, dates, muscatel sultanas... Wow. The flavours are just what it says on the label: robust with an immediate foamy mouthfeel which subsides and becomes bitter, crispish and has lengthy fruitiness. Wow. Landmark beer.

Love this caramel rich porter. Lovely black pour with light head. Aroma of rich brown sugar, mild hops and rich caramel malts with hints of coffee. Comes through with the same over the palate and just a hint of spice. High effervescence and heavy body make for a pleasing, lingering brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. can from Total Wine, Virginia Beach, VA. Very dark brown pour with a creamy tan head. Heavy smoke and coffee are on the nose. Expected coffee, chocolate, and smoke are detected in the flavor. Finishes with a touch of floral hops. Tons of flavor and very impressive for a 5.5% ABV beer. One of the best porters I have tried. Great beer!

An excellent porter. Dark and rich in chocolate and coffee flavor. A bit of licorice rounds out the flavor.

10-MAY-2014, draft @DC Brau. Dark, dark, brown with low brown head. Aroma is roast, chocolate and dark fruits. Taste the same. Almost pruney. Very hard roasted - burnt. Full body, dry, medium body. Fantastic porter. Lovely.

Can poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting creamy brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, bakers cocoa, dark roast coffee and vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, dark chocolate and light coffee with a smooth lingering dark chocolate finish.

Deep, super pitch black coloured body with a dense, three centimetre tall deep light brown head - about 80% opaque in the body with a hint of cola colours coming through when held to a light. Aroma of roasted malt, alcohol, concord grapes, grass, nuts and a hint of spice. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasty malt flavour with oatmeal and milk notes perceptable with a hint of squash, but the caramel comes out along with a bit of figs and a good amount of milk sourness and sugars. Aftertaste shows quite a bit of body with the malt really picking up any other flavours, some caramel sugars and a hint of light fruitiness at the end. Overall, a nice and rather full-bodied (for a porter) beer with an emphasis on caramelised sugars, roasted malt and lactic notes - definitely good to sample, and although not easy to find, worth searching out for. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Fern Street Gourmet in Alexandria, Virginia on 07-July-2012 for US$8.99 sampled at home in Washington a few hours before the 2013 Inauguration here, on 20-January-2013.

On tap at ACBF 6/1/2013 Rich chocolate and roast with some caramel and a solid bit of earthy hops. Creamy silky mouthfeel. This is a fantastic porter.
