The Public is a delicious easy drinking pale ale made from a simple recipe of quality grain and top notch American hops. Tawny hues of caramel and amber are a trademark of the Public ale as well as a delicious spruce crispness resulting from a beautiful abundance of hops! Truly an American style ale for the public.

In a can at Craig’s. Pours a dark golden colour with a fair white head. Aroma of pine, pineapple, caramel and alcohol. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Nicely bitter.

Pours a slightly hazy, dark copper color with burnt orange edges and a two finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Not very " pale" but the head on this beer has great retention with streaks of soapy lacing left behind. Resinous, earthy aroma with subtle spice and grassy, earthy hop character countered by sweet malt notes. Malt sweetness is strong than expected in the nose with lots of caramel, toffee, biscuit and hazelnut. This takes away from the hops a bit but there’s still a somewhat dank and oily hop presence. Fuller bodied than expected with a crisp, dry and bitter hop presence up front that lingers over a sweet malt backbone into a sticky dry finish. Slightly floral but more dank and resinous with spicy grass, earthy pine needle and spruce tip flavor. This is countered by a sweet malt backbone with lots of caramel, toffee, dark fruit, bread and biscuit. Usually I don’t prefer this much of a malt presence in a pale ale/hoppy beer, but it works here creating nice balance. Overall, not a great beer but flavorful, well balanced and very easy to drink.

Can at churchkey. Clear amber with frothy white head. Caramel and old pine tree. Moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Average carbonation. Overall: shrug. A fine beer to drink, not hate, and forget.

Can. Pours a a slightly hazy copper body with a nice frothy off-white head that had decent retention. The nose is just lightly citrusy hops with a heavier than desired malt sweetness. The flavor is much the same way, there’s a decent hoppiness to this, but they’re pretty well drowned out by the heavier malt base. I like my APA’s a bit on the drier and mre attenuated side. Light to medium bodied with soft fizzy carbonation. Meh, this one just doesn’t do it for me.

Somewhat hazy copper with an off-white head. Aroma floral and grassy with a crystal/oxidation note, not pronounced, but there. Taste bitter, floral, some subdued orange marmalade notes. A few years ago this would have been called an ipa, and I think that frame of mind was still prevalent when this was brewed. Not crisp enough for a pale ale, not quite hoppy enough for an ipa, this is a tweener... Not bad, but a little unsure of where it wants to be
