Stone of Arbroath has a rich, sweet malty aroma with mellow notes of plum and brown sugar. The mouthfeel has a "mineral-like" softness with highlights of deep caramelized malt derived from a 90 min boil which encourages caramelizing of dense wort sugars complemented by a subtle roast character that finishes with a mild acridity that pleasantly coats ones mouth. Coming in at a warming and subdued 8% ABV it will definitely ruffle many a kilt this spring.

Bottle (2012) poured into a tulip. Probably around 1.5 years old. Pours black with some brown/ruby hues. Huge 6-7 fingers of fluffy light tan head on the initial pour, possible sign of infection. Took a good 20 minutes to get a decent glass. Aromas of coffee, vinegar, dark fruit, roast, slight dark chocolate. Tasting notes of tart fruit, vinegar, roast, light coffee and dark chocolate. Medium body with a dry and warm finish. Medium-low carbonation, Definitely infected compared to when I had a fresh bottle but still drinkable, kind of turned into a tart scotch ale.

Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours a hazy dark brown with extremely large light brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has notes of tart red fruit with some sweet grain underlying. Flavor has more sweet grains and a bit of caramel with a bit of tart red fruit backing. Seems to have an infection.

Bottle sample at large tasting. Pours brown in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor has sweet caramel malts, earthy notes, wood and some dark fruits and plums. Seemed a bit thin for the style and abv.

Tap at Meridian Pint. Deeper black pour to full haze maroon. Weaker tan foam. Heavy coffee and hazelnut nose. Taste is thinner, hazelnut, chocolate, minerals. Palate is a tad thin, minerally.

Bottle, 10/17/2012. Pours dark prunish brown, large creamy tan head, sticky webbed lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, earthy hops, chocolate caramel, light plum. Taste is roasted malt, coffee, caramel, mild hoppy bitter finish. Body light for the ABV. Ok, but much preferred the oak cask version.

Served on draft at Beer Run. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of earthy notes, caramel, toffee and earthy hops. The taste is toffee, earthy almost peat-like notes, chocolate, faint fruits and minty hops. Medium bodied. Quite nice.

Draft. Almost black, thick tan head, delicate lacing. Aroma of cocoa powder and coffee grounds. Taste is chocolatey coffee. More stout-like than I expected. Tasty.

From brewery tap. Poured a near pitch black color, with a medium-small tan head. Aroma was a nice roasty malt. Flavor is bold, semi-sweet, with a nice solid malt flavor. Enjoyed this a lot.

Tap. Pours with a slight khaki head, on a murky very dark brown that nears on mahogany. Slight peat, roast, dark raisins and plums in the aroma. Quite roasty, slight dark raisins, chocolate nibs, and a dry almost hint of coffee n the finish. Medium to heavier body with with subtle carbonation. Pretty good brew ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
