2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Even though a seasonal, this christmas ale wins upon cellaring for one or two years. Drink it young, and it’s slightly boring and to the sweeter side, drink a year after it’s a good and somewhat complex bitter ale with hints of cinnamon, lemon and ginger. It’s supposed to accombany food, and goes well with traditional danish lunch like hering, pickled gherkins, apple-bacon and liver pate. Due to the slight oily feel, it gets too much on it’s own.

1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Copenhagen 29/12 2015. 50 cl bottle from SuperBrugsen. Pours clear light copper brown with big white head. Settles as thin layer of foam. Aroma is sweetish with caramel, wet cardboard and some medium bitter notes. But the most distinctive odeur is a overwhelming skunky smell. Low carbonation and watery palate. Taste is sweet caramel, burnt sugar and a lot of skunkiness. I have never been very impressed with the "5 gaarde". Their Christmas beer have done nothing to change that disposition.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Light amber color with little white head. The aroma is a bit malty. But the hops bitterness is (sadly) not so perceptible.
Overall a bit too normal for the price for the 50 cl bottle.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
50 cl bottle@ home in Trappist glass@approx 9 degrees C. Pours orange-brown with off white head with sufficient retention. Faint aroma dominated by caramel and roasted malt with a slight fruitiness. Taste very light again dominated by the malts with just a little fruitiness. Hardly any hops present and the malty aftertaste quickly disappears without a trace of bitterness. Thin texture and mouthfeel adds up to a completely uninteresting, but drinkable beer with very little in the way of Christmas spices or such.

(2) Not worth trying. Not that intersting. There is absolutely no christmas in this beer - it might just be me - but there needs balance and something that makes me think christmas.

Competent but utterly forgettable.
