(Bottle, Oude Arsenaal, Antwerpen, 24 Oct 2013) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of caramel, raisins, brown sugar and dark bread. Malty taste with caramel, brown sugar, raisins, prunes, dried fruit and a mild spicy bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Well made Belgian brown ale. Quite nice.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin, half centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, raisins, figs, nuts, earth, grapes and more pit fruits. Medium-bodied; Deep roasty malt flavours with a ton of pit fruit and basementy malt flavours with a little sweetness, some subtle fig notes and a bit of caramel, all with the roasted malt at play. Aftertaste shows a good balance of the malt and sweetness, but very little else - not too much complexity - tastes similar to an old ale, but the belgie qualities are hard to deny. I sampled this 33cL bottle purchased from Beer Mania in Bruxelles, Belgium on 30-June-2012 for €2,25 sampled at home in Washington on the other side of the pond on 10-August-2013, 12 hours before heading back to Belgium.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Asahiya. Caramel jam, port wine, and yeast in the nose. Copper color, with glints of ruby in the light. Thick, rich caramel / mid gets slightly sourish along with big alc. hits / finishes with raisins and stewed prunes. Thin-medium body. Okay. A bit much alc. for the body. Maybe a touch oxidized.

Chocolate brown colour. Aroma and flavour are both sweet, and caramely. Has a nice roasted malt bitterseetness to it.
