Pailhead (3436) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - OCT 15, 2009
Bottle (2004): The aroma consists of lemony sourness with a hint of peach and sweat. It pours a hazy, bordering on cloudy, golden-orange with a small white head. The flavor consists of a mild lemony sourness, a hint of citrus, and a hint of oakiness in the finish. Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. I could drink a ton of this.

This lambic ale poured with a thin white head, eliciting a sour fruity aroma. The flavor is authentically gueuze, very tart and tasty. One of the best.

Tasted 2010-06-12. Bottle from 2009. Pours clear, orange with big white head. Bretty nose. Slightly hoppy. Very acidic on the palate. Citric. Fruity. Delicious.

2007 750mL Lightly hazed copper with off white head, good retention, minimal lacing. A little darker than most, but a sexy gueuze indeed. Lemon rinds, acetic acid, horse blanket, and oak. Taste is more of the smell, very well balanced. A nice sweetness to balance the acetic and citric acids. It’s been almost a year since I had this last, but it’s still my favorite of all the gueuze blenders. Serving type: bottle

375cl bottle at home Vintage 2009. This is a top quality beer and one that I must get more of. The aroma is brett, funk, lemon and limes. The flavour is very well balanced with all of the traditional geuze characteristics on show. This is potentially my favorite currently made oude geuze. Fantastic beer that I will have to lay down in the cellar.

01/06/2011 37.5cl bottle @ home - bottled 01/2009 (2011-RR)

Clear light orange beer under a small off-white creamy head, unstable. Aroma: lemons, green apples, pretty fruity. MF: good carbon, medium body. Taste: very fruity (for a geuze of course), tangerines, lemon juice, oranges, little bit of bretta basement flavour, but not much. Aftertaste: lemon and limes, little bit of pineapple. The acid is stinging the whole mouth after drinking. Perfect for a hot summer afternoon.

Initial rating: somewhere May 2010 37.5cl bottle @ home

Little cloudy golden yellow beer. Creamy off-white head. Lots of carbon in the glass. Aroma: typical bretta, touch of oak, sour apples. MF: fresh and medium to full body. Taste: fresh tart with a bit wry aftertaste. On warming up a certain fruitiness becomes more present. Rating: Ar: 8, Ap: 5, T: 8, P: 5, O:16, Total: 4.2

Pours a yellow-gold with a spritzy white head that fades quickly but good lacing. Head comes back with a gentle swirl. The nose is absolutely mesmerizing. Oak, fresh lemons, wet dog, mandarin oranges. Really complex. Really funky. Taste is acidic but balanced. I like gueuze to be dry and acidic, and this one is certainly that, but maintains balance throughout and never becomes one-dimensional. The finish is bone-dry and very tart. Very clean. A touch of bitterness at the very end. Mouthfeel is spot-on. Crisp and lively and light. If I could I would drink these all the time. I was very happy to have found this so easily in Brussels, not only in bars but bottle shops too. While I’d place it just below Girardin, this is a heck of a beer and a worthy bag-weight on international flights.

(Bottle in Botteltje, Oostende). I thought i’d had sour gueuze until I tried this. Absolutely stunningly sour with loads of citrussy lemon (lindemans?) bitterness from old hops, mustiness and horseblankets but all this is swamped by a totally fresh, pure lambic sour flavour. Absolutely glorious stuff if you like sour lambic - as i do. I’ve had a lot of it since and it’s getting better and better.

Pours with a huge white, fluffy head and delightful deep orange yeast swirls in an amber coloured fluid. Fresh, biting aroma and a great yeasty sour buttermilk flavour. Good bite in the aftertaste. Excellent.
