4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 callmemickey (795) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 9, 2010
UPDATED: JAN 16, 2012 2005 vintage (750ml) opened November 2010.
A: As it pours out of the bottle its got a medium, yet clear red color, but as the glasses were filled it turned a darker blood red with some haze to it. One finger, pink bubbly head that crashed immediately. Spotty lacing.
S: Tons of cherries. An undercurrent of slight sweetness, but predominately a bold tartness with hints of oak.
T: Wonderful sour and tart cherries. Like the de cam gueuze, this has a really clean profile that isn’t particularly funky or musty. It is wonderfully delicious, though. Just a few hints of sweetness and oak, but mostly blasts of sour cherries.
M: Smooth, perhaps slightly undercarbonated for a kriek. Definitely not still though. Quite acidic and sour, but not caustic.
O: Top notch. De Cam really knows what they are doing. I just wish I didn’t have to order these from Belgium.

De Cam Oude Kriek Hazy, red (like blood) body. Lots of carbonisation. Pinkish head which disappears instantly. heavily sour cherry aroma (probably from "Schaarbeekse krieken" (a sour cherry-variety).
It (the aroma) has a strong resemblance with the aroma of the Cantillon Kriek. The flavour however is a little bit less sour than the Cantillon’s. Moderately sour initial flavour. Moderately sour, lightly sweet and fruity long finish. Quite soft mouthfeel, little bit fizzy. This is one of the best Krieks I ever tasted.

Bottle Shared with Mr. Facto. 09/2004 vintage. The beer pours to a deep strawberry red body with a tall pink head that’s frothy. The aroma is strawberries and sour cherries with funky barnyards. The flavors are balanced funky tart barnyard and wild cherries. Sweet, nice malts, sour, and delicious. The palate is sour, funky, tart, and not overly done. Refreshing and sweet. Very nice. I would love to see this in the U.S.

37.5cl bottle from Dorstvlegel, Antwerp. Probably the most lively bottle I’ve ever opened. The cork bruised my lip as it exploded after I took the wire casing off. "Bang!" indeed Kook. Cloudy blood red with pinkish head. Sour, funk and some cherry. Probably the most lambieky of krieks I’ve had. Love the aroma. Cherry isn’t overpowering. Still has the lemon of a lambic. Will definitely have another

Thank you, Peter, for this exceptional sour. This was a very well-aged version. Clear, bright ruby red with a loose, light pink head. Wonderful cherry aromas, both fresh and fermented, with excellent aged characteristics. Full and multi-faceted with a lot of dimension. The flavor is incredibly sour with a purity that is pure genius. It captures the entire spectrum of cherry flavors--sweet, tart, bitter, fresh, aged, fermented, oxidized, tannic--and fuses it with a clear malt base that delivers the flavors skillfully. This leads directly into a superbly balanced body that is very refreshing and vibrant.

From a 375mL Bottle. Pours a transparent, blood red color with a thin head of fizzy pink. A beautiful dark cherry aroma eminates from the glass, skins, pits, and all. Complex sour notes compliment the fruit beautifully. Dry leather, lemon rind, mild cheesiness - it’s all there. Vibrant fruits and dusty acidity. Light bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel with a tickling acidity. Flavors of tart cherry skins and bold lactic acidity. Superb cherry flavors without the sweetness. Moderately sour, with a long, lingering, gueuze-like finish. Wonderful combination of delicious fruit flavors and gueuze-like sour complexities. Thanks for sharing, Chris

Thanks to my friend Troy who brought this back from Belgium for me. Pours a cloudy red color with a very dusty, funky and cherry aroma. Flavor is super-sour with more funk and cherries. This is exceptionally sour and an exceptional beer.
