Bottle @ home shared with DutchDrebus. Hazy cloudy, unclear brown color, average off-white head. Smell sweet and some herbs or spices. Taste mint, spices and sweetness. Good carbo, medium body.

Bottle 33cl, a cloudy brown beer with head that goes quickly. Nose is spicy on cardamom, licorice, anise and ginger. Aroma is a spicy creamy caramel like beer with licorice and anise notes. Quite sweet, wheat notes are low, bouquet is intense on spices like a Christmas beer. Not bad but too sweet.

Countbeer (4908) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - JUN 25, 2011
Bottle: 2009: Medium tan head, disappears quick, on top of a deep dark light hazy ruby colored beer. Smell toasted malts, caramel, light toffee, a hint of something sweet like brown sugars, spices and hops. Taste is a full mix of roasted malts, liquorice, wood, caramel, toffee, vanilla, light (milk) chocolate, medium bitter, darker fruits, some sweets, nuts, oak, hops, herbs and a hint of grains. Well balanced! Medium but long bitter aftertaste of malts, caramel, light liquorice and something like wood/vanilla. Low carbo, soft mouthfeel, full body and a creamy texture. Great beer.

Schokoladig-lakritzartiger Geruch. Der Antrunk entspricht diesen Noten, trotz der Wässrigkeit wirkt er scharf. Anschließend allerdings entäuschend trocken und hohl, noch wenig malzig bevor das kurze alkoholreiche Finish beginnt. 10/9/9/8//9

Sample from a bottle at St. Louis Microfest. Pours a cloudy brown color with visible sediment and some amber highlights and a foamy off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts, earthy funk, wheat, cereal, and a good bouquet of herbs and spices. Flavor of peppery yeast, sweet caramel malts, candi sugar, mixed fruits, earth, wheat, and herbs. Medium-bodied, with a spicy, funky mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Really nice, unusual wheat ale.

Pours turbid Carolina muddy clay brown with 1-finger frothy off-white head. Nose is caramale malt, some spice, mild berry, yeasty esters. Tastes caramelly, a bit thin on the palate, with some fruit, yeast, and spice notes, with more fruit notes as it warms.

This beer is a muddy red brown w/ a thin head. Nose is Christmas spices up front w/ a tart bit of cherry in the background. The texture is creamy, medium bodied w/ fine-bubbled carbonation. There is a certain chocolate or toffee richness to this which works well but the bitterness is just slightly medicinal. Overall, it is a decent beer but probably not one I will be revisiting.

For my 500th review I mustered up the courage to hopefully indulge in this beer. My bottle is 2009 vintage, 11.2 oz brown bottle. This small brewery has been surprisingly good to me so far. The pour is gorgeous on this one, a nice deep reddish brown with a big billowing off-white head. As the head slowly recedes it leaves some fantastic lacing. You can smell this one form a mile away, it smells incredibly potent. It is also quite unique. It is almost like minted strawberry. There are also other spices such as anise that come to mind. There is definitely some funkiness to it though. The flavor is very herbal and spicy. There is a peppermint note as well as a mouthful of anise and nutmeg. Maybe some sage in there too? Definitely very herbal. The mouthfeel was a bit too watery for me. This is an interesting experiment though it is probably my least favorite for far from this brewery. I would buy it again next year if another edition comes out if given the chance. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-16-2010 03:16:14

Bierkrug (2132) - - MAR 7, 2011
330 ml bottle in Germany. You need to pour this like a Hefe to get all of the yeasty parts in your glass. This is one of those desert beers. One that you try once and say that was neat but you don’t ask for a second one. Small off-white head atop murky (when poured correctly), dark red-brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, banana, some Brandy/alcohol, raisin, light chocolate. Top class Aroma. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, raisin/plum, some chocolate, light anise. Light alcohol/burn in finish. Medium-full body, some stickiness.
