Pours turbid Carolina muddy clay brown with 1-finger frothy off-white head. Nose is caramale malt, some spice, mild berry, yeasty esters. Tastes caramelly, a bit thin on the palate, with some fruit, yeast, and spice notes, with more fruit notes as it warms.

This beer is a muddy red brown w/ a thin head. Nose is Christmas spices up front w/ a tart bit of cherry in the background. The texture is creamy, medium bodied w/ fine-bubbled carbonation. There is a certain chocolate or toffee richness to this which works well but the bitterness is just slightly medicinal. Overall, it is a decent beer but probably not one I will be revisiting.

For my 500th review I mustered up the courage to hopefully indulge in this beer. My bottle is 2009 vintage, 11.2 oz brown bottle. This small brewery has been surprisingly good to me so far. The pour is gorgeous on this one, a nice deep reddish brown with a big billowing off-white head. As the head slowly recedes it leaves some fantastic lacing. You can smell this one form a mile away, it smells incredibly potent. It is also quite unique. It is almost like minted strawberry. There are also other spices such as anise that come to mind. There is definitely some funkiness to it though. The flavor is very herbal and spicy. There is a peppermint note as well as a mouthful of anise and nutmeg. Maybe some sage in there too? Definitely very herbal. The mouthfeel was a bit too watery for me. This is an interesting experiment though it is probably my least favorite for far from this brewery. I would buy it again next year if another edition comes out if given the chance. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-16-2010 03:16:14

330 ml bottle in Germany. You need to pour this like a Hefe to get all of the yeasty parts in your glass. This is one of those desert beers. One that you try once and say that was neat but you don’t ask for a second one. Small off-white head atop murky (when poured correctly), dark red-brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, banana, some Brandy/alcohol, raisin, light chocolate. Top class Aroma. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, raisin/plum, some chocolate, light anise. Light alcohol/burn in finish. Medium-full body, some stickiness.

66cl bottle. Pours a cloudy odark range color with a big soft white head. . Aroma as expected, warm with malty sweetness prevailing on the floral hoppiness. Overall, a very well balanced flavor.Taste is good but not as complex as expected: it’s mostly sweet with some spicy notes and some phenols. Well rounded body; lacking some complexity.

(330ml bottle 2009 vintage best by March 2011 thanks to bu11zeye) clearish brown-orange with lasting tan head. Nose of caramel, raisin, and sweet bread. Taste of raisin, sweet, bready, a bit of anise and ginger. Well carbonated finish with a long duration. Pretty good for what it is!

Dark ruby color with no head. Aroma of chocolate, wheat, and spice. Lots of chocolate flavor with spice, anis, and caramel. Different taste. Nice beer.
