Bottle purchased from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Gent, Belgium, 19-02-10 consumed 27-02-10 Pours reddy brown with light beige filmy head that soon departs. Aroma is a dark sugars but not a great deal else save for a touch of alcohol. Taste is sweet, and there is something slightly medicinal going on, with possibly a bit off toothpaste or mint in there maybe, despite these strange flavour’s I actually quite like the beer, strength is noticeable but not harsh. Draught @ 15e Kerstbierfestival 2009, Essen, Belgium.
Clear medium to dark amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, spicy, licorice - star anis, anis seed, coriander. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is medium to watery, carbonation is soft. [20091212]

Tap at the 2010 Max’s Belgian fest: Pours a transparent dark copper with a stringy-lacing white head. Aroma of toasty dark caramel and strong black licorice anise notes. Starts with some toasty biscuity malts and a touch of milk chocolate and lots of black licorice before a drier doughy finish. Pretty good, but a bit too much licorice flavor.

Tap at Max’s Belgian Fest 2010. Pours a deep ruby with a very fast fading head. Aroma is fruity esters, earthy, light hops, doughy biscuit and cream of wheat breadiness, toast, - some earth and herbs. Flavor is light caramel sweetness earth and very watery palate- seemed pretty thin overall?

Tap at Max’s. Pours a clear red. Phenols, must, earth in the nose. Some very odd flavors like dirt, floor, old candies, must, sweaty socks in the body. Weird.

Kerstbierfestival in Essen. Murky brown color with fruity nose, notes of black currant and juniper. Firm bitterness, light sweetness, well balanced. Pretty dry. Getting spicier as it warms. Well-rounded and confident winter warmer.

Tap at Blind Tiger: Hazy light golden pour with a white film of head. The aroma has a mild doughy note with a touch of bubblegum phenolics. Slick/light body. Has a very simple pale Belgian malt flavor. Some mild bubblegum and peppery phenols- quite one dimensional and boring.
