3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
660 ml bottle - pours hazy brown with golden yellow hue. Aromas of cigars, ashes, leather, peat, salty caramel, plums. Medium body, smokiness disturbes sweetness-roastiness balance, warm alcohol glowth in the end. Flavours of light mocca, chocolate and smoked eel. Bit off balance but a great beer. (Ardbeg and straight peated whisky are better).

Bottle. dark brown color. Malt, peat, iodine. the typical Laphraoig aromas. Initial malty sweetness, dominated by the peat and the iodine in the flavor, and hanging on in the aftertaste. Almost peppery, ash, band aids. Not for pussies, but quite delicious.

66cl, as Embrasse Peated Oak Aged, with sticker ’Laphraoig Whiskey Barrels’, new exclusive brew Anno 2013, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex smoked brew, malty/smoked and slightly woody/spicy, yet not too heavy, balanced, cloudy, small head, good brew, yet expensive!

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle picked up in June 2013 from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, nr Gent, Belgie, consumed at Moreton in Marsh campsite, Friday 1st November 2013 Pours looking like a fast flowing yorkshire stream, i.e peat stained waters, initially looked a little murky but on closer inspection actually quite clear. The barrel ageing with Laphroig is not really up my street at all but this is just about ok. Soft in mouth, nose is quite medicinal but not too bad. Touch fizzy in mouth, warming with more clean medicinal flavour in mouth than on aroma. A little sticky sweet but for 10% its easy drinking. I like this more than I expected A5 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.4

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Disparate cream head over virtually black beer, but red-shot. Tarry, sharp, phenolic. Islay onslaught smoked and PEAT (as entering an Irish countrypub). Phenolic, rather sweet (!), alcohol penetrating in the taste. Smoked, tarred poles, charred meat. Alcohol, slick to viscous/oily feel. A gap of difference with the Lagavulin Edition. For the phenollovers, this is the one. For those preferring complexity, however...

10/VIII/13 - 66cl bottle @ RBBSG II, my place - BB: n/a (2013-756) Thanks to Tinus for sharing the bottle!
Clear dark brown beer, small off-white aery head, falls down quickly to a small layer of very fine bubbles, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: bit chemical, iodine, salty, some disinfectant and band-aid, peated, caramel, bit sugary. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sour start (from carbon?), spicy, peppery, caramel sweetness, pretty dry bitterness, lots of alcohol noticeable. Aftertaste: very peated, caramel and malty sweetness, lots of alcohol, bit salty, more peat.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Courtesy of Tinus. Thx! 75 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBSG II. Same beautiful packaging as the others. Pours a murky brown with little off-white head. Nose is mellow peat mixed with sweet mocha, chocolate and some earth. Taste is sweet cocoa, light chocolate milk, lasting earth and slightly medicinal peat, integrated but heavy but not over kill, coffee and soft brown chocolate,… Rather creamy. Quite nice but definitely not as good as the Ardbeg version. Still excellent brewery and another great beer from them.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark reddish black colour, white head. Aroma of chocolate, peat, ash, caramel, whisky, smoke, grass and coffee. Peated flavour, ash, wood and chocolate. Quite dry. Woody finish, chocolate, hint of ash. I quite like Laphroaig and in my personal opinion for this beer the barrel might’ve been a bit more outspoken. It’s quite balanced as is, which I suppose will appeal also to those who´re not so much into Islay whisky (though that begs the question: if you’re not into Islay whisky, why would you buy this beer?)
