Wrapped bottle, striped red paper with sticker "Peated whiskey cask" on the lower right end of the "logo"
An 9% ABV beer in which the fermented sugars were all obtained from malt (20 degrees Plato). A generous dose of hops and a long maturation time makes this beer best of the best. This beer is bottle conditioned and will go through taste evolution during many years. Selected by the brewer from his best peated whisky casks. Matured for a quarter of a year. Winner of the Zythos Beer Festival (ZBF) consumer prize 2011. (Translation by Martinus)

Tap at SIBF 2012. Pours murky brown. Like a slightly dilute doppelbock with a mild peat undertone, or a bit of whiskey over dark fruits and brown sugar. The flavor pleasantly builds on the aroma. Not bad at all.

Shared bottle at Spuyten Duyvil. Hazy, deep red-brown pour with a short tan head leaving little lace. Nose is smoky peat, dates and a bit of booze. Heavy body with light carbonation, yielding a lovely round, smooth mouth feel. Peat, wood, caramel, blue cheese, raisins, dates and some light citrus peel. Finish is medium and remains as complex as the swallow, with a bit more wood and cheese, with some whisky creeping in. Very nicely balanced - a lovely drop and my favorites Belgian Strong.

Sampled at THE FESTIVAL, MA. Pours a deep brown with creamy brown lacing. Aroma is tar, sweet fruit, alcohol and peat. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of sweet fruit, peat, smoke, ash, alcohol and tar. Eh.

Bottle.... no : 0048 ... It pours hazy dark amber with a medium fluffy tan head..... The aroma is smoke, oak, spicy and whiskey.... The flavor is creamy, smoked oak, ash, roasted malts, spicy and wood.......full bodied ! .... smoked finish...... very nice brew ...

Very dark color, almost black, with medium sized brownish head. Aroma of medicine, hint of smoke, orange peel. Good body strength, with a reasonably round mouthfeel; strong chocolate flavor, with some roasted malt, caramel; compared to the black wrapped "Oak Aged Blended", the peat (which is mild) masks the liquorice; there is some residual sweetness, to soften the beer.
Well brewed, and more interesting than its sister.

Hazy brown/red body. Off-white/lightly brown fizzy head. Malty arome with hints of wood, peat, ...: soft and well balanced. Subtle and complex heavily bitter, lightly sweet flavour.

Straight from the cask @ ZBF ’12. Evident whiskey and chocolate nose. Roasted and coffee as well. Dark redbrown with a thick lasting tan head. Bitter, sweet taste, Whiskey, coffee. Irish Coffee. Intense full finish.

On tap at Zythos, Brabanthal, Leuven, Belgium Saturday 28th April 2012 Strange aroma, I expected to get just elastoplast and iodine but instead of the usual peated whisky elements I also get a bit dose of piss, real goodly splash of urine, which is really quite interesting and strangely with the other aromas it isn’t to unsettling. Taste is also all things peaty, but soft in mouth with some dark honey, malts and a light smokiness showing as well. A7 A3 T7 P4 Ov15 3.6
