COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wrapped bottle, striped red paper with sticker "Peated whiskey cask" on the lower right end of the "logo"
An 9% ABV beer in which the fermented sugars were all obtained from malt (20 degrees Plato). A generous dose of hops and a long maturation time makes this beer best of the best. This beer is bottle conditioned and will go through taste evolution during many years. Selected by the brewer from his best peated whisky casks. Matured for a quarter of a year. Winner of the Zythos Beer Festival (ZBF) consumer prize 2011. (Translation by Martinus)

Bottled, Feb 2013. Slight hazy ruby color, medium frothy light brown head. Aroma of soft peat, some red fruit, some dark malts, slight spicy yeast. There’s some sweet note that softens the peat, which is good for me. In taste it’s more dry, again quite some peat, some nutty tones. Nicely balanced as always from de Dochter vd Korenaar as the peat usually will overpower a beer completely. Here it does dry out the beer quite a lot, but there’s relatively a lot of flavor and aroma of the base beer left. A wonderful base beer that blends extremely well with all these barrels. Peat is not my favorite, preferred the blended oak for that, but it’s a lovely beer.

We loved the dark, rich flavour. We thought it was roasty, had chocolate and smoky tones, a beautiful ruby colour, minimal head, fortunately not too sweet, soft carbonation, though a pretty abrupt finish.

Light brown, smells like huge peet and oak with a hint of blueberries. Taste is intense. HUGE smoked taste, lots of pettiness, some caramel wow. over the top intense but overall, still very drinkable.

Bottle from Gator Beverage in Gainesville. Wrapped in red paper for extra super fanciness. Pours dark brown with a one finger yellowish creamy kahki head that lingers for a bit. A bit of ruby on the sides in the light. Smell is all peat, paint thinner, wood. Yikes, complex but does not smell like something you should drink. Flavor is straight up peat whiskey and motor oil. Nothing Belgian about this. A little fruit comes out after your palate gets used to the smokey peat. No reason for this to be in a bomber size. Share it. Let it warm up, too. Fruit flavors come out as it warms. Really need to be in the mood for this. I can appreciate the whiskey, but not what I was looking for when I popped a Belgian brew. Pretty much the opposite.
