PhillyCraft (606) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 8, 2012
Bottle. Special edition version lagered for three months on oak, aged in 1/3 whiskey barrel and 2/3 cognac. Split with Pat for his re-emergence back into the beer game. Poured a deep, bloody, chestnut with a massively complex, thick, khaki colored head. Gothic church window spiderweb lacing. Aromas and Flavor are chocolate, pepper, cedar gruit, sour black cherries, dutch smoked gouda, vanilla, whiskey oak, slight funk. I was already a huge fan of the normal Embrasse but this one took the cake. Full bodied rich flavored belgian that outlived my expecations. Awesome.

0.66 L bottle, wrapped like a gift with a tag, and no label on the bottle inside. Tag says number 16855. bottled April 2011. Just shy of opaque, the chocolate body has a lasting centimeter of sticky, creamy foam. Sweet alcoholic nose of vanilla, whiskey, chocolate, roasted peanut, toffee, and a hint of smoky char. Taste is less sweet than expected: front has more char and toast blended with the sweetish chocolate and caramel that show up in the middle. Earthy toast and peanut, whiskey, ash and light oak help to dry the finish a bit. Medium body is a little sticky, and hot for 9%, but a nice sipper.

Bottle from City Beer. Pours dark brown with a tiny disapearing beige head and an alcohol and raisin aroma. There is a rich dark fruit flavor with some vanilla and an oaky finish with a warm alcohol trail. I could drink this all evening and then fall asleep.
