66 cL bottle. Pours almost clear and golden deep amber with a two finger thick and brown head. Roasted malt and slight yeasty aroma. Fruity and roasted malty with a mild earthy to smoked touch - vague infection. Herbal and spiced from back of the nose. Mild sweet and fruity finish with a mild citric note. Evolving infection yet still good.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 17thfloor (2300) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 13, 2009
Tried twice on draft at Zythos 09. Pours a very dark near black dark red/brown with a large thick frothy off-white head. Rich licorice aroma with notes of chocolate, plums and lightly fruity. Flavor is straight black licorice at first, followed by a touch of rich chocolate and dark fruits. Very true flavor, rich and perplexing. Dull (in a good way) creamy mouthful, very consistent with light subtle fine carbonation. Great beer!

UPDATED: NOV 4, 2009 Draught at Zythos, St Niklaas, Belgium, 08-03-09 Pours dark brown with a beige head. Light roasty nose maybe some smoke. The taste is a little spirity initially, some coffee dregs, a bit clingy, some chocolate and spirit again, its fine. I had a little taste of this the day before from Ray’s glass and preferred it then but not so keen on it today A6 A3 F6 P3 OV12 3.0 I had this again picking up a bottle at Dranken Geers, Gent, Belgium 31-10-09 and consuming it later that day in camper at Guines France. Pours hazy amber with an off-white filmy head. Plenty of malt and dark sugars on the nose. Really tasty beer and much better than when I had this last time. Good body to this, soft but warming in mouth. There is a little nuttiness in the mouth, dark sticky molasses, its nice stuff. A7 A4 F8 P4 Ov15 3.8

66cl bottle at home, iRate: pours a very dark red-brown. Black cherry juice. A nice creamy tan head with staying power sits nicely on top. Roasted grains with cocoa powder, apple and dark toffee. A touch of earthiness, almost ashy. Hint of cherries in the background. The beer is gorgeously silky in the mouth. Smooth waves of roast with a soft brown sugar underbelly roll from front to back. Light cola as the roast goes back out to sea. Milk chocolate comes in afterwards with a touch of green leaves. Deep black cherry mixes very nicely with the milk chocolate. On the tailend the roast rolls in with more power bringing ash with it. Touch of alcohol on the long roasty ane leafy finish. Quite an enjoyable beer with a nice silky mouthfeel. Many belgian brewers would have made this beer too dry... I am glad this brewer did not!
