Poured from a 22 oz bottle, pours a dark amber color with big foamy head. Aroma is pure malts, fruity notes. Tastes as it smells, all malts, no hops present in this beer at all. Full bodied with a smooth clean finish, probably the malts. Overall a very pleasant surprise, much darker poor and fuller flavor than expected.

Sold as Embrasse Rauchbier at Maduro. A Belgian Smoke beer? Pour a nice filtered amber-brown. Soapy, patchy head. Pretty solid, creamy and malt centered. Solid, but not overwhelming in the smoke department. I’d assume this is an Ale, it certainly has a fruitier Belgian yeast profile. A very interesting beer.

Details: 33cl bottle at ’Brasserie Demervallei’
Tasting: Dark brown to deep ruby red color with a one finger beige creamy rocky head. The aroma is sweet and very malty with hints of fruit and sweet milk chocolate and a slight coffee aroma. Very malty nose that reminds me of a bar of milk chocolate with a fruity filling. The flavor is very malty and sweet with hints of milk chocolate and a slight dry coffee finish. The mouthfeel is soft and full. The flavors are very well balanced.
Conclusion: A very malty and balanced strong ale.

Bottle. Pours a deep, dark ruby brown with large, everlasting beige head. The aroma is rich with figs and dates, along with some notes of dark chocolate, rum, oak, pine, apricot, clove, and coriander. At first sip, the beer is more bitter than I was expecting given the richness of the aroma. Bitter chocolate and a woody, piney character (reminds me of the Chinook hops in Arrogant Bastard kinda) stand out front. Those sweeter notes from the nose then come in. Prune, raisin, dried cranberries, and a hint of vanilla. Then into the finish it gets that strong woody bitterness again, along with a little bit of alcohol warmth. The woody taste lingers for quite some time into the aftertaste. This is quite a tasty beer.

Bottle, 75 cl. Dark brown to black beer with medium nice beige lacing head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, dark fruits and some hops also. The taste confirms the aroma: a powerful and nice beer, more a stout than a ’strong ale’: very nice malts, with the caramel/chocolate notes again, the dark fruits and the roasted mouthfeeling. The hops coming to the foreground towards the end giving a nice light bitter finish to the beer. One word for this beer: fantastic!

11/12/12/12/13/12

Bottle: nr. 8993: Big light brown/tan head on top of a murky deep dark orange brown colored beer. Smell roasted sugars, roasted malts, hint of coffee, barleys, spices. Bit like and impy. Taste dark spices & fruit, brown (roasted) sugars, hops, bitter, hint of root liquorice, herbs and barleys. Grassy herb bitter aftertaste. Creamy mouthfeel, creamy/watery texture, low carbo and a medium to full body. Nice beer.

Wow, chocolate caramel coffee and everything I don’t want in a beer hidden in my favorite style. Sorry. I’m sure many of you will love this. I can’t get into it.
