Bottle 2012. A deep reddish brown beer with a thicker foamy diminishing head and good lace. Aroma is ripe berries and bananas from afar; while it is cooked bananas vanilla, light baking spices, and deep caramel malty sweetness up close. The flavor is similar with dried very ripe dark fruits dominating at first with the sweetness which gives way to a roasted malt character and spices; finishing with oak, substantial bitterness, alcohol and belgian yeast. The texture is my favorite part. It’s silken while ending both tannic and sticky. A great beer though the sum of its parts don’t make me really love it for some reason.

Almost black with a small head. Aroma and taste is coffee, chocolate, malt, butter with some fruit and a slight hoppy, herbal note. A very nice beer after dinner.

Pours brown with a small head. Lovely aroma of coffee, bitter chocolate, dark fruits and some smoke. Bit sweet maybe, but not too sweet and also a good bit of spice. Just the right amount of carbonation and slick mouthfeel.

I have had this a couple of times but oddly enough I have never gotten down to reviewing this beauty // 33 cl. bottle @ ‘t Waagstuk // (a) dark brown with a lighter tanned head // (s) darker malts, nuts, mocha, lighter touch dark fruits, chocolate // (t) bitter mocha, cocoa, chocolate, lightly bitter half-dried dark fruits, berries, nuts, chocolate, hints of dark bread, Porto in finish, lightly vinous, hints of jus in the beginning, really lovely // (b) nice smooth, substantial body // one of the better dark Belgian ales in my opinion

33cl from Willems & Zoon. BB Dec. 2013.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2012 66 cl bottle @ home. Pours reddish brown with a small white head – not much lacing (a little sediment floating around). Aroma is malty, yeasty, sugary, fruity, slightly funky. Taste is much of the same. ABV is incredibly well hidden.
