Bottle. This pours a dark brown beer with a huge, tanned head. Lucky that I’ve poured in a Duvel glass. Aroma is full of licorice, molasses and has a roasty background. Flavour returns a lot of the licorice flavours, being bittersweet with a malty sweet backbone. Some alcoholic sweetness detected, making it a bit sirupy as well. Really nice sipper!!

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours a dark-reddish beer with a huge tan head. The nose reveals a toasted malt character with hints of chocolate and coffee. This is a very heavy brew and you can feel it in the mouth, a very big body. The taste is not as roasty as the aroma, with loads of caramel and a very strong malt-sweetness. The alcohol is barely noticed. Consistent brew.

Draft at pine box. Pours a grainy near-black with a dense and bubbly tan head that seems to stick around forever and ever. Rich roasty nutty nose, showing walnut shells and meats. Some black olive maybe. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Roasty dark flavor profile on the mid palate. Pleasant, easy drinking, hides the alcohol well. Nice stuff.

On tap at Brasserie V. Dark pour with dark fruit and Molasses on the nose. The mix works well. I would drink this again for sure.

Bottle. Thanks to KyotoLefty. Coffee aromas accompanied by striking yeast. Very dark brown.Very unusual sweet to bitter alternation. The coffee and hop flavors bounce off each other. Medium-heavy body. Quite a strong malt base. Very nice balance.

Bottle from ohtsuki. Rich malt nose, lots of. Unich malt, chocolate and caramel, cocoa. Clean, rich malt. Dark borwn with a very lovely thick fine head. Very German in character, very bock-like up front, sweet and rich, then coffee, bitter, earthy, raunchy. Yeasty spice astringency too.

Bottle 2012. A deep reddish brown beer with a thicker foamy diminishing head and good lace. Aroma is ripe berries and bananas from afar; while it is cooked bananas vanilla, light baking spices, and deep caramel malty sweetness up close. The flavor is similar with dried very ripe dark fruits dominating at first with the sweetness which gives way to a roasted malt character and spices; finishing with oak, substantial bitterness, alcohol and belgian yeast. The texture is my favorite part. It’s silken while ending both tannic and sticky. A great beer though the sum of its parts don’t make me really love it for some reason.

Almost black with a small head. Aroma and taste is coffee, chocolate, malt, butter with some fruit and a slight hoppy, herbal note. A very nice beer after dinner.

Pours brown with a small head. Lovely aroma of coffee, bitter chocolate, dark fruits and some smoke. Bit sweet maybe, but not too sweet and also a good bit of spice. Just the right amount of carbonation and slick mouthfeel.
