Unmarked bottle-in-a-bag from Picobrouwerij Alvinne. Deep purple-brown color with a medium beige head that settles slowly and leaves very fine lacing. Aroma of red wine vinegar and nutmeg. Flavor of port wine, vinuous and smooth but acidic, with a background of sourness and funk. Full-bodied and silky. Interesting and unique.

Bottle from beers of europe. Unfortunately my bottle didn’t come in the sexy, stylish cover in the picture above! Anyway, it pours dark brown with a beige head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malts, smoke, coffee. Nice. Flavours of dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, burnt malts, licorice. Tasty. Sweet, dry and smokey mouthfeel. Finishes dry with a good alcohol burn. One to savour.

Bottle at GBBF 2009, 5th August 09. Perfect dark brown with a centimetre and a half of beige head. Great condition. Lovely rich caramel taste with a hint of smoke. Excellent stuff.

(Bottled, 0.75l) Very dark brown with a medium, tanned and lacy head. Sweet, syrupy-malty aroma with lots of dried fruit, licorice, some roastiness. Flavor is sweetish but roasty, licoricey and dried-fruity, and hides the alcohol well. Medium to full body with slightly foamy carbonation, and feels strangely a bit thin (probably quite a bit of sugar used). A different brew, but quite balanced and enjoyable dessert. The syrupy sweetness and light bitter roastiness mix well here, like coffee and amaretto.

Bottle at Mike’s place: Muddy deep auburn pour with a thick tan head that retains well. A fruity and vinous aroma with a subtle tobacco-like earthy malt background and has hints of mild waxy phenols (crayon-ish). Crisp mouthfeel. The flavor has some toasted earthy malts- dry tobacco leaves with a nice vinous fruity yeast quality. Quite unique and complex with warmth. Nice stuff.

Bottle shared at EDAs post Thanksgiving bash. Poured a brownish honey amber with a medium sized beige head with some serious lasting power. The aroma had notes of brett, spanish olives, wild flowers and sourness. The flavor seemed to have some oxidation and was dominated by brett and olive notes. Medium body with a very dry finish. Not really my cup of tea on this one.

Bottle shared at the DC Local tasting. Pours a translucent amber, brown with a creamy, slightly off white head. Nose has port, cognac, grapes, vinous, candy sugar. Flavor is wood, sugary, boozy, port, grapes, toasted grains. The very end has this exceptional chocolate flavor that rounds everything out. Finish is a little dry and a little sweet.
