UPDATED: NOV 26, 2012 33cl bottle @ home. Wow what a great beer. Like they say its a mix between a trappist and a stout. A great beer with a bite.

Very hazy amber - brown beer. Good creamy tan head. Pleasant nose of mild chocolate and a little cherry. Soft dry palate. Mild chocolate and malt start. Repressed fruits in the mid and then quite a hoppy bitter dry finish. Lingering bitter aftertaste with fruity malt. Quite a contrast between the front end and the back end. I preferred the front end!

Deep, dark. Highly attenuated, quite dry. A little too austere. Toasty, dark, coffee, bitter. Booze shows.

Bottle 33cl, a dark amber beer with good head and lacing. Nose is very rich, dry grapes, prunes, yeast, sweet muscat, vinous. Aroma is vinous and yeast like, lot of tannin, red and dry fruits, vanilla, oak touch, chocolate, well done, surprising. Excellent beer and good complexity.

33cl bottle from IPB.
Appearance : Dark shiny mahogany with medium brown foamy head. Nice look.
Aroma : Rich malts with dark fruits. Light raisins,Light belgian yeast. Overcooked caramel.
Taste : Rich malty taste with overcooked caramel. Light belgian yeast. Finish yeasty with more caramel, light bitter sugary notes. Light piny hops.
Palate : Moderate carbonation. Less than the average belgian but it fits pretty well with the style.
Overall : Quite interesting. The Belgian character is there but it seems to have some Barley Wines notes as well. Really nice rich sweet and hoppy finish. Nice smoked/burnt notes on the finish that seems to come from some badly overcooked candi sugar. Very well made and full of character. Nice surprise.

Colore rosso bruno, schiuma abbondante e persistente. Aroma di malto , con note di liquirizia, cacao un un bel bouquet floreale. Al gusto dolce, ben equilibrata dall’acidità e da un amaro aromatico. Corpo rotondo.

66cl bottle. Dark brown liquid with small to medium, lightly tanned head. The beer is hazy with some little bits in it. Nose : soy sauce, toffee, chocolate, cheese. Sip : medium to high density body with oily texture. Little to medium carbonation. Sweet with notes of burned and soy sauce like flavor. Balanced with milk chocolate and toffee. Really malty with aromatic hops to end. Aftertaste is burned and little sour like sweet coffee. Interesting.

The aroma is toasted malt, caramel, paper, grass, and lightly scorched earth. The appearance is deep amber brown with an average head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall a better than average beer.

I absolutely love the look of this beer with a deep rich hue of amber and orange. It's aroma is slightly sweet with a touch of candy. Not hoppy but full of character. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
