Bottle in snifter. Dark brown with tint of purple. Tan/white lacing. Aromas of dark fruit, malty sweetness. Slight peppery spice with a apple lick sweetness. Hops are moderate, seem a bit out of balance with sweetness. Dry finish but not crisp.

Bottle from Beer Planet, Brussels
Cloudy dark brown color, almost black, with a generous creamy head. Nice aroma of dark chocolate and mild roasted malts. Good body structure, round, with very good dark chocolate flavor, and roasted malt; there is just a moderate sweetness to balance it; good bitterness level too; there are just traces of liquorice; the final as well is very chocolatey. Very good.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle, pours a dark amber color with big foamy head. Aroma is pure malts, fruity notes. Tastes as it smells, all malts, no hops present in this beer at all. Full bodied with a smooth clean finish, probably the malts. Overall a very pleasant surprise, much darker poor and fuller flavor than expected.

Sold as Embrasse Rauchbier at Maduro. A Belgian Smoke beer? Pour a nice filtered amber-brown. Soapy, patchy head. Pretty solid, creamy and malt centered. Solid, but not overwhelming in the smoke department. I’d assume this is an Ale, it certainly has a fruitier Belgian yeast profile. A very interesting beer.

BigMomma (213) - Leuven, BELGIUM - JUL 31, 2011
Details: 33cl bottle at ’Brasserie Demervallei’
Tasting: Dark brown to deep ruby red color with a one finger beige creamy rocky head. The aroma is sweet and very malty with hints of fruit and sweet milk chocolate and a slight coffee aroma. Very malty nose that reminds me of a bar of milk chocolate with a fruity filling. The flavor is very malty and sweet with hints of milk chocolate and a slight dry coffee finish. The mouthfeel is soft and full. The flavors are very well balanced.
Conclusion: A very malty and balanced strong ale.
