4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 sayravai (4655) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAR 22, 2006
(Bottled@Erasmus) Hazy, nutty amber color with a smallish, lasting head. Port-wineous, slightly cellary, sweetish aroma wth figs. Sweetish, toffee-caramely flavor with figs, port and oak. Some herbs (rosemary, salvia) too.Medium-bodied, surprisingly fresh palate with low carbonation. Slightly syrupy. Much softer and slightly ashy with yeast. Although it may not be at its best anymore, it’s still a very enjoyable brew, with which you’ll sit for long and not because it’s so bad ;).

Bottled. Purchased at Brasserie Erasmus. Reddened amber body with a medium tan head. Nose is very honeyish and sweet with light malt notes and light floral notes. Taste is more honey, some tart fruit, flowers, mild malts, and spice. Body is bubbly and effervescent but still kind of light. Finish is light honey notes, tart fruits, anjd mild dryness. Good beer!

11 year old bottle at Erasmus in Brugge (thanks Tom!). Clear orangish copper color with a minimal off-white head and some chunks of sediment at the bottom. Aroma is sweet malt, apple, spices, wood, and whiskey. Flavor is complex with lots of honey sweet malt, caramel, apples, barrel notes, whiskey, sherry, muscat, and spices. A little oxidized but still very good. Smooth palate with little carbonation and medium-full body.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Beerlando (3342) - Orlando, Florida, USA - OCT 8, 2009
1998 bottle at Brasserie Erasmus. Pours a hazy, brownish amber hue with a thin tan head. Settling to a swirly film with a skinny edge around the rim, the foam shows some thin sheeting on the glass but leaves no lace. The aroma is quite malty, with brown sugar, dark candy, fig, and both golden and dark raisin notes. There’s a slightly oxidized, sherry like thing going on that works well. Flavors are largely the same, again sweet and fruity with a big raisin overtone, both dark and golden varietals. Hints of plum and candied dates come through as well, followed by a soft sherry heat. Medium-full and lightly syrupy, the palate sports an appropriately soft carbonation. This has held up well over eleven years, but it’s probably not what it once was.

At the Hotel Erasmus in Bruges. Pours a nice Medium golden orangish color. Minimal fizzy white head, lasted maybe a minute or two. Aromas of light spices, a touch of brown sugar, and something whiskey like. Flavor is lightly sweet and hints of spiciness.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 puzzl (3172) - New York, New York, USA - OCT 23, 2007
2000 bottle at Hotel Erasmus. Apparently this beer was made for the hotel by De Dolle in 1998 on what I think was their shared 21st anniversaries. Not quite sure. Anyway, I was thrilled to see this on the menu. Clear auburn pour gets tainted by old yeast. Honey, licorice aroma. Clove, cinnamon, a dry taste. No sour, but the De Dolle yeast bread notes are present. Light on the palate, a little minerally finish is bad. Perhaps a bit old, though very mellow. Compared to other De Dolle beers, this hasn’t aged too well.
