Tweaking of "Dulle Teve", one ingredient having been changed: instead of the usual beetsugar, cane sugar was used. This resulted in a somewhat lower ABV: 9% instead of 10%. This beer is still readily available at Erasmus tavern in Brugge. Very thick creamy head, orang-amber beer, hazy. Oxidation in the nose, cookies-biscuit (3yrs old), typical musty DDB smell, sugar + honey, and a garden-herbs aroma. Sweet taste - but less than expected. Bitterish, more than expected, blending with the musty flavour to a very balanced beer. There is some oxidation-flavour component. Thick, oily mouthfeel. Very outspoken alcohol-burn. Long honey-flavoured aftertaste, dryer than first taste. A very likeable beer, which defies its BBdate - the hotel-inn isn't fooled and still offers it on the menu.

At the Hotel Erasmus in Bruges. Pours a nice Medium golden orangish color. Minimal fizzy white head, lasted maybe a minute or two. Aromas of light spices, a touch of brown sugar, and something whiskey like. Flavor is lightly sweet and hints of spiciness.

Sehr süer Geruch, etwas getreidig, leicht bitter. Aromatisch hopfig-malzig, cremig. UPDATED: NOV 9, 2010 De dolle 21. 33cl bottle consumed at hotel Erasmus, Brugge, Belgium.... Pours a mostly transparent golden orange brown with a thin layer if offwhite head... Rich sherry aroma with figs, honey, and dark Belgian sugars. Aged for sure with mild oxidation. Sweet all around... Flavors are on par with the difference being a faint to mild citric fruit tartness towards the backend. Carbonation is light and body hasn’t thinned too much from the aging process. A well aged Belgian strong ale which has de eloped some nice aged characteristics. 8/4/8/4/15

Bottle at Hotel Erasmus, Brugge 02.10.10 Hazy amber appearance with a slim white head. The aroma is quite weird but likeable, I get mouldering fruit, you know like orange with a bit of white mould on em’ in the fruit basket, Loz get’s gravy granules, so an interesting combination. Flavour lean’s more towards the fruit element rather than the gravy side but its a bit sour, the alcohol showing towards the end. It’s fine but not as great as I was hoping, maybe it’s on the downward spiral, btw the beer menu said 1989 but the bottle said 1998. A8 A4 T6 P3 Ov14 3.5

My # 3400th rating. Shit. Thanks Rene for trading this. 1998 vintage. Pours clear amber with a small creamy white head. Nose is deep. Vinous, matured, dusty, oxidized, yeasty. But it also has a very fruity touch to it. Sherry, vinous and fruity. No doubt it is past its prime but its also obvious that this once was a world class beer. Just grateful for trying this. Thanks.

Beautiful deep golden body with a big white head; Very special nose, old but behind the age there are layers of beautiful elder flowers and berries; Huge carbonation in a very aged body, quite fruity; Even more age in the finish! A beer that has the sense of something once very great.
