nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Nov 29, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark gold with a huge foamy head. Took several minutes to pour this one. Aroma of oranges, apples and bananas. Flavor was sweet with a spicy finish. hapjydeuce (763), Del Mar, California, USA Nov 19, 2008 Bottled. Dark golden color with overdeveloped head and plenty of carbonation. Refreshing aroma of pear, bubblegum, banana, orange peel and clove. Sweet flavors of lemon and orange are well-played with a dry-hopped spiciness. A bit hot on the finish, and comes off almost too cloying. However, biscuit tones from Belgian yeast round it out overall. Seems like this could be really good with a few years of age. tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Nov 19, 2008 Bottle. Pours hazy gold with lots of carbonation and huge whitish icecream like head. The aroma is peppery yeast with quite a few fruity tones- lemon, banana, white grape, pear- and a little bit of a sweet pastry maltiness. The flavor is quite spicy. White pepper, lemon zest, coriander, and cardamom are the dominant flavors. There’s a woody alcohol note through the middle, over a honeyish malt. The finish is dry and yeasty, and even just a touch sour. The aftertaste has a long, fairly intense grassy hop burst. Strange, but tasty. michael-pollack (2603), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 18, 2008 330ml Bottle: Sweet aroma of malts, caramel, bread, yeast, honey, light fruits, spices, slight funky cheese, rotting peaches, slight apples, and hops. Poured copper/amber in color with a huge, fluffy, wispy, white head that diminished slowly. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of tiny particles throughout. Flavor is medium to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malts, caramel, grass, hops, resin, honey, yeast, biscuit, bread, slight pepper, slight apple, and a hint of maple syrup. Medium body. Smooth, syrupy, tingly texture. Average to lively carbonation. Sweet, hoppy, earthy, finish dries out over time. wkalle (110), Sweden Oct 30, 2008 Bottle, pours golden amber whith huge lasting head with excellent lacing. Fresh spicy aroma. Flavor is lightly yeasty with some spiciness and fruits. Long lasting and dry finnish that makes you want another sip. No sign of 8% abv except for the warmth in the finnish. A great beer. saxo (3511), Højbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark Oct 29, 2008 Bottle. Huge head with good duration. Color is hazy amber. Aroma and taste are sweet, acidic, yeasty, fruity and sugar. KnN (712), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Oct 20, 2008 Pours a hazy golden color with a huge whipped marshmallow head. Aroma is band-aids, bubblegum, and raisins.
Flavor is dry, bitter, and yeasty but in a nice way. There’s a little to much of the chewing on aspirin astringency to this one to be really nice, but there’s a lot going on in the background that’s exceptional. Some great malt flavor and some chewiness. Not my favorite De Dolle, but not bad. Bontus (291), Waasmunster, Belgium Oct 20, 2008 Updated: Nov 26, 2008On tap @ De Dolle Brouwers brewery. (and several bottles in rerating) Pours golden blonde with a huge white head. Nose is kandisugar and flowers. Hops overall present from nose to aftertaste. A bit too cloying if you swish it through your mouth.
Also yeasty and sweet.
Dry-hopping makes this a remarkable beer with a perfect flavorbalance sweet-bitter-sour. On the swallow this beer leaves you reminding why you love beer.
