Two days, two de dolles: last night the sensational Oerbier Special Reserva, and tonight the Ara Bier. Pours hazy pale orange, with big fluffy head. A little sweet on the nose, in contrast to the sour cherry of the oerbier. Malty, spicy first sip trailing to dry, bitter finish. Plus carbonation. Mouthfeel not nearly so pleasing as last night’s. Very dry. Rye, bread (but not rye bread). Fluffy white head sticks around forever. Yeasty. Certainly not my favorite, but certainly not bad. And the label is cool.

Bottle thanks to redlight. Pours a hazy orange/yellow with tons of bubbly white carbonation. Its an older bottle and def has some age on the nose. Smells slightly of hops, mandarin orange, a slight spice... maybe clove or ginger, and a honey sweetness. Tastes slightly sweet, spiced. Ginger comes out more in the flavor along with a slight citrus. Lingering tobacco at the finish. Overall a solid belgian... as expected from De Dolle.

Bottle. Light, hazy, golden amber pour with a massive frothy white head that lasts ages. Sweet and spicy aroma has notes of caramel, apple, pepper, citrus, yeast and ginger. Flavour is very similar but with less fruit and more spice. Mouthfeel is light and dry with lots of prickly carbonation and a long spicy, mildly sweet finish. A lovely, complex, distinctly Belgian ale that is challenging yet quite easy to drink. Another winner from De Dolle Brouwers.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 tdtm82 (666) - Essex, ENGLAND - APR 30, 2010
Bottle. At home. Bottled January 2010. Consumed 30th April 2010. Thanks Phil L. Poured into goblet glass. Massive creamy white head. Classic golden appearance. Traces of pine and licorish sweets on the aroma. Taste of citrus hops, good carbanation, full mouth feel, easy to drink and excellent lacing. Really good on the throat this one. An ideal beer for a hot day. A little sharp twang but not a nasty one which shows the art of this beer is very high. Butterscotch, doughy yeast, faint ginger and caramel body. A top beer. Lovely artistic label. The bow tie is a classy and very impressive piece of unique marketing skill. No other brewery does this as far as I’m aware. Anyone know of anything like this?? This beer should be a big sellar for the De Dolle people.

33 cl bottle. Pours cloudy golden with a big white head. Yeasty sweet aroma with a touch of honey, flowers and spices. The taste is hoppy with a bitter finish. Medium body with medium carbonation.

33cl bottle. Pours a cloudy orange color with a huge soft white head. Not very goos lacing foam. Aroma is as expected, warm and complex, with malty sweetness and alcohol prevailing on the floral hoppiness. Overall, a very well balanced flavor.Taste is good but not as complex as expected: it’s mostly sweet with some floral notes again. Alcohol is almost completely hidden. It lacks a defined finish, leaving with a sensation of incompleteness. Well rounded body with medium carbonation. In conclusion, a good representative of its syle, lacking some complexity.

(on my wants list)! Thanks for the opportunity to try this beer! 11.2 oz bottle poured into my chimay chalice.
A-Body is a hazy pale amber hue that pours with a huge (actually gushing) ridiculous...slightly off-white head. Head eventually fades to 1 finger but leaves a thick layer of foam all the way down the glass. Body is very cloudy-nearly opaque.
S- Nose is quite hoppy...but has more of an herbal/medicinal hoppiness to it than the floral profile typically offered for this style. A hint of alcohol and Belgian yeast can also be detected.
T-Flavor profile is very similar to the nose. Herbal/Medicinal hop flavor profile upfront with a substantial balance of sweet exotic fruit and a bready yeast backbone. The finish offers a slight medicinal refreshing twinge and a hint of the initial flavors linger on the palate after the finish.
P- Well done. Nice medium body with a bready mouthfeel. Low carbonation.
o- This is a decent BSPA. It is well put together and is definitely a unique, cool interpretation of the style...but its not really my cup of tea. It is definitely worth a try and I am glad that I had the opportunity offered by a very generous BA.
