SHIG (2012), Aviano, Italy May 13, 2007 Bottle: Poured a rusty yellow with a fast acting thick large white cream head. The head that would never go away, took me forever to pour this beer! Strong pungent citrus, floral, and fruit aroma. Taste was as complex as the smell. Full of floral and fruit notes along with dry earthy finish. mj (4975), Colorado, USA May 10, 2007 Cloudy golden yellow body with a large, fluffy, thick white head, with mountains and canyons of thick sea-foam lacing. Dusty old citrus fruit, spoiled bananas and a light alcohol presence in the nose. Sort of a creamed banana scent as well as it warms. Sprizty, full carbonation, lively, over-carbonated actually, with flavors of dusty bread dough, sour grapefruit and more hoppy simcoe-like grassiness that’s a bit surprising. Bitter grapefruit is tasted, yeast is very apparent but not overdone. Bitterness and perceived dryness is quite different than I remember other De Dolle products, and it’s actually really nice. When at cellar temperature the aroma releases an aged cheese note. Good stuff as always from De Dolle. Jine (889), Nutley, New Jersey, USA May 7, 2007 3.30/3.31.07 bottle, Steelgaarden, Bethlehem, PA. This had a real "dirty" taste to it. Like, earthy almost. Lots of fun. Too bad it cost so much at the Steelgaarden. I’d like to get some of this locally. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA May 5, 2007 The color was pale orange/golden and hazy. The head was extremely foamy, creamy, eggshell color and thick bodied. The aroma was alcohol, sharp, hoppy, earthy, citris, and stale rag. The flavor was bitter, hoppy, earthy, citris, tart, alchol, and extremely sharp. The palate was well carbonated and med/thick body. The finish was warm. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA May 5, 2007 Updated: Jul 8, 2007My god, extremely prolific head. Very reactive, thick, eggshell, comes out of the bottle and does not break down quickly. Sticky lace. The color ends up being a mellow, soft hazy orange. Very appealing, like a warm nap. Ok, starts off sharp, spicy, and dry. The 7% is done in such a way that it adds a vinuous quality. Tastes bretty. That sour earhty/saison feel. Reminds me of what I remember about Fantome. Drink some to allow space in the glass and then stir it for aroma. Light spicy sourness, a little bit of alcohol. The palate is warm and dry. The finish shows some hop on the back of my tongue. A nice grapefruit bitterness. My third de dolle and I wants more. Bartzilla (441), San Diego, California, USA Apr 28, 2007 From the bottle. Very nice, easy drinking and a great way to start off the mico De Dolle fest we had last night. Well, it was just my gal and I, but we did well. Back to the beer... smooth, a tad spicy and a rich, yeasty finish. Very interesting. GaltScat (195), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Apr 24, 2007 Cloudy orange with a giant white head that refused to go away. Aroma of yeast, malt, spice, oranges, apples. Flavor of delicious yeast, hops, malt, and orange. A little dry and bitter on the finish, which made for a wonderful experience. dmradus (225), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 24, 2007 Bottle at Delirium Cafe, Brussels. Hazy gold-orange with a half-inch of lasting, dense foam. Aroma is a bit indistinct, with some spice, a bit of orange in coriander. Nothing particular stands up and demands attention, but the overall impression is of a nice, clean freshness. Taste is alcohol upfront. This fades to a slight sourness, with spices and an orange rind tartness that accentuates. It all fades to a slightly bitter finish that is redeeming. Interesting, nice.
