Fin (3385), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Oct 11, 2006 Updated: Jul 1, 2007Bottle, at Paters Vaeje’, Antwerp, Belgium, 06-10-06. I realised I had this before only once I’d seen the whacky, colourful label. Like De Landtsheer brewers of the Malheur range, I have been very impressed with De Dolle beers thus far, this was’nt an exception. Very orangey golden and with a slight haze, and large white head, aromas fruity, mainly citrusy and with some malts backing these up and hops also noted. Tasted very decent quite full bodied with those, fruits, malts and hops very much in evidence again quite sweet but also bitterness lingering throughout, very good 3.7 Had this again 24-06-07 at the De Dolle Brewery on tap in the company of Loz and Kris the brewer. Had to re-rate this again as i think that I underated this beer initially, it had the most intense hoppy hit that I just need to add to the original rating this cleverly disguised the strength and made this beer so moreish 4.1 yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Oct 10, 2006 Bottled. A but unclear beer with some yeast, and a white diminishing head. Citric and sour aroma with spices, yeast and green apples. Sour flavor with fruit, yeast, alcohol and bitterness. Medium body and a bitter finish. A complex beer I didn’t quite understand. (060908) fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Oct 6, 2006 Bottle. Hazy, pale orange / golden color with big white head. Lots of fruity aromas. Lemon, banana, green apples and dried apricot. Taste is very complex and well balanced. Sweet malts and honey. Sweet and sour fruits. Fresh and flowery hops. Smooth mouthfeel. Glouglouburp (2782), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 1, 2006 Updated: Dec 11, 2007In short: Crazy blonde Belgian Ale. Cannot summarize…
How: Many bottles of various age and on tap at Brewery (poured by brewer!!!)
The look: Cloudy dark blonde body with a long lasting large white head. Most bottles give so much head that the pour is usually problematic
In long: Very yeasty, very sweeet and very hoppy beer. With the Arabier you crank everything to 11. Honeyed caramel, bready, biscuit malts, light but complex fruity notes. Top-notch mouthfeel. Something wild in there, this is not a funky beer by any means but there’s something lively in the beer, the feeling I get from my favourite Saisons. By Belgian standards the hops are over-the-top. A ton of them and they also come with a rather spicy (pepper mainly) flavour. Very sharp and bitter finish. These days the only thing as bitter as a Belgian Arabier is a Lebanon Arab.
