Brad (364), Berkley, Michigan, USA Aug 22, 2005 Bottle: Dark orange in color with a large pillowy white head which lasts forever, leaves some nice lacing. Nose of white sugars and alcohol. Not much flavor to this one, mostly alcohol mixed with some bland hops. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Aug 14, 2005 Half head half beer in the glass. Dark orange-yellow colour. Nice aroma of candy sugar and mellon. Spritzy start, baking soda finish. Sour grapefruit finish. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Aug 11, 2005 Smells kind of fruity but full of alcohol. It is rather light in flavor except for the noticeable alcohol tase. In fact, as fas as Belgians go, it is rather poor. Saarlander (1577), Saarlouis, Germany Aug 9, 2005 My My Ms. Ara, what A big head you have, but your flavor is lacking compared to your comrades, Spicy, fruity flavor, but not great, not bad either, kind of a tobacco aftertaste to me. an ok beer, I’d drink it again. vanvenlo (794), Glen Iris, Australia Jul 30, 2005 1 Apr 05 - Light fruit hop aroma. Bronze cloudy colour, some of the best head and lacing I have seen. Sweet light fruit with full on hops. Hop bitter finish medium mouthfeel. I think it is a bit too hoppy for the amount of malt. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Jul 25, 2005 Pours to a huge 3" foamy head atop a hazy copper body. The 33 cl bottle filled my 23 oz snifter. Delicate lacing. The aroma is Turkish apricots, yeast, lemon, light hint of spice, flowers, light sour/tangy component. The flavor has a cinnamon spicyness to it. Apricots + generic fruits + sweet malts + medicinal herbs (mints and exotics). This is the kind of beer I’ve come to expect from De Dolle! Much better than the Bos Keun I had for #400. The palate is slick and medium bodied. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England Jul 23, 2005 Bottle (21/07/05). Masses of foam - I had to sit down for five minutes before it died down enough for me to finish pouring. Spicy yeast and fruity malts. Fairly light body with a touch of bitterness in the finish. Main feature is the spicy yeast without anything else to balance this. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 22, 2005 Pours a hazy golden color with a massive pure white thick head very similar to duvel, along with some of the best lacing ever. (huge clouds of foam were left all over the rim and sides of the glass. Aroma is somewhat spicy and phenolic but as it warms it gets a bit more fruity like apricots and a hint of citrus fruits. Flavor is pretty good but not great- lots of sweet malt mixed with yeast and some fruitiness. Finish is kinda dry and lacking. Im glad I decided to retry this one after having one be very syrupy and undrinkable.
