Hazy yellow colour with a huge white head.
Fruity aroma with notes of spices and alcohol.
Fruity flavour with notes of spices, wood and hops.
Hoppy finish.
Definitely not the best beer from De Dolle. egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 17, 2005 Poured a cloudy yellow orange color with a huge white head that left spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of apples, pears, citrus, light grapes, yeast, with a sweet finish. Tastes of citrus, spicy nutmeg, and yeast. The flavors ended finished very abruptly, leaving just alcohol in the aftertaste. JonMoore (1561), Loughborough, Leicestershire, England Jul 12, 2005 Bottle. Cloudy pale gold colour with huge white head; possibly the livliest beer I’ve come across, carefull pouring made largely irrelevant. Aroma is citrusy, spicey and yeasty. The taste is spicey, citrusy and hoppy. Sweet to begin with a big spicey finish. Medium, carbonated mouthfeel and dry to astringent. Excellent. wunderbier (1264), Tampere, Finland Jun 29, 2005 Updated: Jun 30, 2005A gentle pour reveals a rich and hazy golden hue. Yeast particles of all sizes dance in the lively carbonation. The mountainous white head develops quickly with a milk froth consistency. Thick Brussels lacing is left behind as the head slowly recedes into the beer. First whiff stirs the imagination to a lush valley, rich with wildflowers, grass and grain. A bakery in a quaint village has started making the day’s first bread along with cookies for the children. Gently, a lemon flavored herb cough drop is unwrapped; a pleasant family recipe that is more dessert than medicine. A quick survey of a faded canvas rucksack reveals a bounty of pears and apricots for lunch. Slipping back into reality, the flavor upholds all that the aroma promised and adds a bit of spice. Never overly sweet, the malts maintain a fine balance with the citric acidity and floral bitterness. The hops in this beer are outdone by only a handful of other Belgians. Formidable body considering the abv with a feeling of champagne poured on satin sheets. Adding the remaining yeast makes me wonder if I didn’t spend all day reading an old leather bound book at that little bakery. 0,33l bottle, snifter. csbosox (1076), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Jun 28, 2005 33cl bottle. The color is a hazy golden, with suspended particles, especially after the last bit is poured in later. I initially poured 4/5th of the beer into my NB worthy glass and the large head starts growing, and growing, getting bigger, I think it finally stopped. The head is 3" tall in the glass and extended another 1 1/2" past the top of the glass. I am glad I didn’t pour the entire bottle in the glass! Anyway, without even getting near the beer, I can smell it, it is yeasty and spicy. The beer is ~49°. When the head dies down somewhat, I am able to get a better whiff of the beer, it is lemony citrus, yeasty, and spicy. I would imagine I will get more of the aroma when the head dies away more. The taste is lemony citrus, pungent white pepper, yeast, flour, and moderately bitter hops. The taste is all at once, there don’t seem to be the phases of flavor, it’s just all there at once, taunting you. The finish is really spicy with yeast and a mild lemon flavor. The palate is acidic and astringent, but also floury. larsniclas (3383), Gothenburg, Sweden Jun 26, 2005 Bottled.
Orange, huge white head.
Grassy flavour with qpricots.
Leather and dirt-flavour.
Fresh and fruity. rlgk (3377), Vårgårda, Sweden Jun 23, 2005 Fruity aroma with some apricot, some orange and some sweeter fruits. But the flavor is strange. Rubber and leather and it never gets very plesasant. A disappointment, maybe I have to try it again one day... SoLan (1369), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 15, 2005 Orange/copper. Huge, bubbly white head. Hazy. Bubbly head turns creamy by the end of the pour. Sweet malt, yeast, bit of hops and alcohol in the nose. Big malt up front, smooth and sweet with just enough carbonation to give it a little bite. Hops in the finish and the aftertaste, yeast underlying throughout. Medium/full body. Excellent.
