3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
11.6 oz bottle into a New Belgium goblet. Bottled 5/2011.
A: Pours a cloudy dark gold color with strong carbonation and some unattractive yeast particles. The head is a bit rougher than I really like in the style; nonetheless it’s about three fingers high, colored offwhite, retaining itself decently. It also has a huge floater in the center, with a much creamier texture. Lacing is sparse but strong where it exists.
S: I first note some white grapes with some caramel, earthiness, and a kiss of lactic sourness. This light fruitness evolves, developing additional tones of orange, apricot, and cherry. The complexity of the fruit esters here are really engrossing.
T: This has a bit more caramel malt than I expected, along with a finishing touch of lactose. Behind this primary flavor lies the fruit notes I loved so much on the nose. Also, I note some grassy hops on the aftertaste; I could tell this would be quite hoppy fresh. There’s an accumulating earthy note that provides some cheesy qualities; some sips are like biting into a stank-ass cheese - and by gawd King, it works here.
M: Despite some of the early sweetness, this is nicely crisp and dry, probably aided by its age. The back end is pretty astringent; a bit more than I like, actually. Otherwise, it’s a very successful mouthfeel, mixing pleasant dryness with a good complexity of flavor.
O: Quite tasty. This would probably be better fresh, but it’s still drinking great right now. Regardless, this is one of those mildly strange beers that really makes you contemplate it. Think of it as Duvel’s slightly loopy but lovable younger brother.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a giant, froth head, cloudy amber-yellow in color.
Wheaty, malty aromas with a subtle sourness.
Has a very unique, convincing taste. Begins with bready, toasted malts and bitter hops at the same time. While hops turn more present, a vinous sour punch enhances its piny, grassy character, paired with overripe stone fruits, which get coated up by toffeeish, sweet malts, revealing an earthy bread taste during the finish. This brew convices due to its striking interaction between a complex, slick hop bitterness among throughout evolving malts. Both flavors stay on the palate till the very end, without stopping to change their taste. This blend, of two almost opposite flavors, which are going side-by-side in this brew leads to an immense variety of tastes, with hints of fruits, fermented grapes, scorched toast, earth, toffee, rock sugar - changing on the palate at an amazing speed. Finishes with an outstanding malt supported bitterness, which numbes the tongue for quite a time.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a hazy peach color with a large, white head that fills over half of the glass. Aroma is very fruity, loads of apple and pear, slightly vinous, some grape. Taste is slightly sweet, very fruity again with the apple and pear, some apricot and peach, vinous, fermented fruit. Fairly full with medium carbonation. Just plain excellent and so very drinkable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Hazy orange color with a beautiful pillowy head. The aroma is very spicy, with coriander and clove. The flavour is just a little sweet, honey-like, but more tart, with citrus peel and spice flavours, and then it finishes very bitter. Dry also.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from de Bierschuur in Poppel. The aroma is very citrus like, with also tones of hops, flowers and spices. Nice aroma, but could have been a little stronger. The beer is nicely carbonated and has a large white head. The taste is pretty dry, refreshing and a little alcohol is hidden and the tones from the aroma are reasonable discernible. The finish is dry and very hoppy with an explosion of bitterness. A little too bitter for me, but actually is a nice and refreshing beer. Maybe I have to try a second one.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from the bottle into an Achel glass. This is certainly a beer that looks the part: yellowy-orange with lots of gas and a huge foamy head. Bitter, spiced, lovely stuff. Just a hint of nail polish remover to stop it being sweet. Perfumed woody hop aroma.
