COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boskeun is the nickname of Jo, one of the two brothers who preferred to brew blond beer at home. It is a special Easter beer, one of the first real Belgian Easter beers. (Slaghmuylder's paasbier being first). It has been brewed with pale malt, Golding hops, cane sugar and refermented with native honey. As it is a seasonal beer we suggest not to keep it eternally. The name Boskeun means rabbit of the wood (virgin wood, maybe?) and the label shows it, sampling the last brew.

Bottle split as part of a three-person tasting. Before I even got my glass, I hear WOW exclaimed, and that’s how I fell about this beer. It pours a cloudy, murky orange color with lots of yeast particles floating around. The head is white and small but lingers just a bit. It has an interesting aroma of apple, honey, and caramel apple. Did I mention apple? Flavor is malty with tons of caramel, fruit, and hop notes. Finish is long with a caramel sweetness and slight bitterness. It has a high alcohol content, but the only way that I felt it is by the heat in my through after I swallowed, not a burn, just a nice heat. This is a very complex beer, full bodied and rich with many different flavors that dance across your tongue. Again I say WOW!

Bottle - My first De Dolle beer was a real winner. This was the last beer at a three-person tasting, and it knocked all of us on our asses. The pour isn’t that impressive -- it amber with a small head and tons of floaties. Wait, that deserves capital letters because there were so many. FLOATIES! Anyways, the smell was incredible -- honey and apple. I could have smelled it all night, but I wanted to see what it tasted like. At 10% it went down waaay smooth, with caramel, sweet toffee, and a nice warm, boozy finish. It was like a fine dessert that’s sweet without being cloying. There was too much carbonation, but that’s a minor nit. What a fantastic beer -- I look forward to trying it again. That naughty little rabbit on the label demands it.

Bottle. Pours with a pale straw color and a gigantic head that quickly retreats. Nice aromas of dough and spices. Great flavors of spices, dough and some hops. Body is medium, could be a bit more fuller for my taste. Overall a nice beer.

Bottle (330ml) shared with garthicus, jerc & mabel -- c/o j&m. Pours a cloudy yellow-gold with tons of floaties and a small diminishing rocky off-white head. Aroma’s like sweet orange candy or something -- candi sugar with light hops and citrus fruit -- it’s a little too sweet and almost artificial for my liking. Flavour’s also sugary sweet along with some spices, honey, sweet malt, yeast and fruit. Alcohol’s well hidden. Medium bodied. Pretty good, just too sweet for me.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a hazy golden with a medium but fading white head and an aroma of fruit, coreander, thyme, brown sugar and sweet malts. The taste is initially very citrus-like and later on a bit more hoppy and sweet. Hints of various fruits, sweet malts, spices, herbs, and hops. A long bitter finish. I love it

Poured a cloudy amber with a huge rocky head, the bottle was a gusher, there was some sediment in the beer and the glass. The aroma was citrusy, grapefruit, spice and fairly sweet. The flavor was bitter at first that fades to sweet and malty, fairly fruity and complex with spice notes and alcohol. The palate was warm from alcohol and the carbonation was lively. Overall this was a complex and fruity beer, the Belgian character really shines through.

2 bottles, 1 bb feb. ’08 (last one of Jerohen’s gifts, thanks a lot for all of them), 1 bb sep ’10. hazy orange with lots of yeast (even more in the aged one, obviously). Overall; a pretty decent beer (see other descriptions). Unfortunately for me, i sense a hint of earwax that is disturbing me throughout the drinking of this beer. As aroma and flavor of the aged one has matured it also has more of the earwax-hint. If you like it it’s definitely worth aging, but i prefer an aged ’la wambrechies’ anytime.
