Beerlando (1157), Orlando, Florida, USA May 1, 2008 Pours a very cloudy, glowing, golden-tangerine color. A massive, dense, foamy white head shows excellent retention, leaving thick sheets and clumps of lacing behind. The nose shows a robust blend of candy sugar, dried white fruits, coriander spice, cream, and a funky, bready yeast note. Flavors are again based in sweet candied sugar, with the coriander asserting itself a bit more. Fruity elements are dry and concentrated, yet nearly indiscernible as to particular type. I’m thinking some pear and some nectarine, but I could be off base. The mouthfeel is quite substantial and creamy smooth, but finishing on the cloying side. Spicy, dry yeast lingers in the back of the mouth for a good while. I’m not crazy about coriander spiced brews in general, but this is another winner from De Dolle. When in the proper mood, I could really crave this brew.
BuckeyeSammy (344), New York City, New York, USA Jul 20, 2008 The alcohol is completely hidden in this beer, no way its 10%. Complex flavor, spicy. Winter spices are very present, some hops on the tail end. coldbrewky (458), Saugerties, New York, USA Jul 20, 2008 .33L Bottl via sloth. Pours a translucent hazy orangish amber with an active white fluffy active head. Head slowly selttles and transforms itself into an oily off white clingy head in the tulip glass. Nose is of yeast and muted spices. Afterbit is initialy stronger than body but see saws as beer warms in glass to this humid overcast day. Body mimics the nose in its yeasty and muted spice fashion but also imparts a sweet perpperyness that is pleasing to the tounge. Muted corriander and orange peel are coated in malt. Alcohol is seemingly unreported in thi easily quaffable beer. (it hit me 20 minutes later) Lacing is swoopy. Spots of trup and yeast on the bottom of tulip. Pepperyness becomes a skoash more pronounced as glass warms. A nice beer that I probably would not have tried if sloth had not thrown it at me when he visited. Thanks Bertly! You Rock! RomanW70 (280), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Jul 15, 2008 Had at Restobiers in Brussels on 6/22. Pours amber with a thick head. Nose of fark, fruits, caramel, and winter spices. Flavor is much the same, with a sour elemt. Carbonation is med-high. Slightly spicy ion the finish. Anotrher excellent offering from one of my favorite brewers. MuttyD (41), Cambridge, USA Jul 15, 2008 Dark orange/brown color with huge bubbling head. Lots of brown sugar, dark fruits, and caramel in the nose and flavor. Palate is heavier than other De Dolles but still rather thin. Slightly bitter finish and sticky feeling on the palate. Very complex beer. The_Epeeist (892), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 12, 2008 11.6 oz bottle. Foggy brownish orange with a dense off-white head. Yeasty nose with floral hints. Medium light with tickling carb. Taste is buttery yeast, tomatillo and bitter lemon. Another solid offering from De Dolle.
