redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA Feb 12, 2007 Sour orange aroma. Pours golden blonde with a huge white head, as the bubles keep rising. Rich flavor, some citrus, starfruit, sweet sugar, a hint of grapes, and a little dry. There’s some spicey flavor in there i can’t place. Very complex flavor but entirely refreshing! dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 10, 2007 murky dark yellow pour with a head that’s alive. It doesn’t stop growing! Smells of apples and peppers with a carbonated mouthfeel akin to the Unibroue family of drinks. Caramels close down the mouth sensations. The alcohol is extremely well buried and doesn’t distract at all from the great character of this beer. This is probably one of my all time favorites. I need to acquire more! JAXSON (229), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 4, 2007 Updated: Feb 15, 2008Two separate ratings for this one. From a corked 750ml bottle, huge thanks to Dorwart. The bottle is about 6 years old at this point, and if coerced properly, the head does not rise and surge out of the bottle for a full 45 minutes. The key is to just let the blessed thing stand for awhile before popping it. Historically magnificent nose of oak, lemon, yeast, hay, and soft light fruits. Pour varies wildly based on how the bottle has been handled. Hazy yellow-golden, growing darker orange toward the bottle’s end. Flavor is a wild collage of many elements married into one cohesive vision. Kind of oaky, yeasty, funky lemon dominates, but not so dry like a geuze, it’s warm, rich, and elegant. Rum, cheese, and lighter fruits shine as well. Extraordinarily lush and smooth, pretty much the perfect beverage. 10,4,10,4,19 = 4.8
33cl bottle, various vintages. Very different beer from the 750ml version. I’m honestly not sure whether the recipe is the same of whether age just transforms this beer massively. Nose and mouth present alot of nectarine, apple, yeast, but finishes with a long, kind of bitter note that isn’t entirely pleasant. I would just buy a case and let it sit for 5 years as an experiment. 8, 4, 7, 4, 15 = 3.8 GandGKevin (183), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Feb 1, 2007 11.2 oz bottle. Pours yellowish brown with a creamy white head. Aromas and flavors of caramel. Very good. cathcacr (585), Portland, Oregon, USA Jan 27, 2007 Updated: Feb 27, 2007Comments added on second try: First bottle wasn’t a fluke, but I "got" this beer this time. It’s liquid butterscotch. Fabulous beer. Extreme and interesting.
Strange one, this. The bottle may not have been good, as it burst out with foam upon popping the cap. Poured great after that. Neat aroma. But the taste was . . . well, different than I should think a Tripel or any beer should be. It wasn’t pleasant at first. Something of a blend between tart and . . . metallic. Off-putting and harsh. Then I got more used to it as I proceeded. By the bottom of the glass it was hardly off-putting at all; more a mellow Tripel with some mild tartness. Maybe I’ll try another bottle. thewolf (5623), Kolding, Denmark Jan 27, 2007 Beautiful golden yellow with lots of bubbles. Big, big foamy white head that sticks to the glass. Aroma is yeasty with a youghurt feel, straw- and raspberries. Some alcohol and hay as well. Full-bodied, not that creamy, but fills up your mouth fine. Flavours include oranges, lots of malty sweetness, a vinious feel as well as lots of warmth. Bart (1625), Vosselaar, Belgium Jan 27, 2007 Clear yellow coloured, large white head with a lot of carbonation. Strong yeasty alcoholic aroma, some herbal touches. Strong full body, some sprankling. Finish is yeasty, alcoholic sweet, strong with a long and burning ending. Some fruity touches. A mad bitch for sure. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Jan 23, 2007 12 oz bottle pored into an Ommegang abbey glass. Really enjoyed this tripel. Poured a mildly cloudy goldish orange color with nice full head. Tiny bubbles lasting throughout. Citrus, spices medium bodied. One of the best tripels I’ve had to date.
