marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Dec 13, 2006 Bottle. Strong yeast aroma, cheese. Orange hue with bubbly white head. Strong flavor. Bitter throughout, slight citrusy orange peel. Slight cheese flavor. Sweet up front. Some spiciness. Strong carbonation. Sharp on the tongue and then mellows. Alcohol smolders as it gos down. Good overall. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Dec 11, 2006 Updated: Oct 15, 2007Hazy golden with a perfect head, rich and frothy. Tropical fruits and coriander aromas. Flavor is immediately sharp, but not abrasive. Perfumey and spicy, lemon zest, pear, maybe some wheat. Briskly carbonated and dry in the mouth, distantly sour, evolving dynamically as it warms. Really quite nice.
Updated. A very old bottle of unknown vintage at the Brickskeller. Pours murky and golden yellow, towering foam. Aroma of the perfect apple cider; tart, spicy, and rich. Caramel, pure honey, almond and maple syrup in their sweet and perfect essences. Tastes of french toast, lightly dusted with nutmeg and cardamom. Detailed and dense. Hints at garlic, pineapple, fruit liqueurs, and cotton candy. Slick and heavy in hte mouth with a sage-like bite of bitterness. Very warm finish. Entirely unique, and unforgettable. stouby (1931), Holbaek, Denmark Dec 7, 2006 Bottle at home.
Unclaer amber with a very large off white head, good lacings. Aroma heavy malty (fruity, citrus, esters), moderate hoppy, light yeasty. Flavor heavy sweet, moderate bitter, long duration. Medium/full body, lively carbonated, strong in alcohol. DrewTaylor (154), Michigan, USA Dec 3, 2006 Hazy golden color. Enormous head fades quickly. Extremely carbonated. Spicy aroma kicked up by the carbonation. Tastes of mild fruits with the burn of an alcohol finish. Tingly due to the carbonation. Hides the 10% very well. Awsome beer. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA Dec 3, 2006 Updated: Sep 19, 200912OZ bottle VIA mibromeo (thanks!). Wow, as soon as i opened this it started crawling out. The head is like 80% of the glass...only got about 1/3 in my mug and the rest is now crawling out of the botlle. What a mess...perhaps infected? Taste is actually not that bad. It is both sweet and tart, with some vanilla, honey, and berry flavors. Carbonation is high, body is medium. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA Dec 2, 2006 11.2 oz bottle-pours lightly cloudy orange with a small fizzy white whispy head with some lacing along the edge of the glass. nose is fruity/ funky, estery with lots of sweet ripe citrus. smells more funky than alot of trippels i have had A light dusty ester comes in there as well. flavors are sweet, light funk, light citrus, tart yeast, actually very tart, especially on the finish. almost like a grapefuit without the bitterness. finish is very tart with lingering funky yeast. Very nice trippel with some nice coplexity. JK (2944), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Dec 2, 2006 This is a dry, well-hoped tripel. Pale in color and an impressive white head. There is a hint of sweetness but this is nothing like a tripel that is actually sweet, like Karmeliet. I taste some grapefruit in addition to the dry hops. I have waited a long time to have this and I’m glad I finally had the chance. beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA Nov 29, 2006 Updated: Nov 11, 2007330 ML bottle-Poured a cloudy, hazey off orange color w/almost no head. Sweet aroma of sugar cane/cotton candy. Crisp flavor of citrus & spice, with some dough & brown sugar thrown in. Rich full complex flavor. Long finish. It’s good, but it’s no Special Reserva 2005-but not much else is!!
Rerate-on Tap 11/10/07- Even better than I remember. A lot more of the sweetness came thru on tap. Long smooth finish. Easy drinker.
