Habanero (610), Tranbjerg, Denmark Aug 25, 2006 Bottle: Pours a hazy orange body and a lively, medium sized off- white head that is short lasting. The aroma is with apple, citrus, banana and caramel with a good amount of yeast. The flavour is sweet/ sour fruity (oranges and lemon) with an alcohol bite. It’s full bodied. Pleasant sour and slightly bitter finish with yeast and alcohol at the end. Enjoyable! RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Aug 24, 2006 11.2oz bottle. Aroma: Yeasty breadiness, bananas, oranges, and pears, mild spiciness, touch of toffee. Appearance: Dark orange and very hazy bordering on murky. Some floaties spotted. Head is white, full and creamy looking. Nice lacing. Flavor: Sweet maltiness, a subtle earthiness, citrus, banana, slight bubblegum, and a nice pepperiness. Palate: Medium bodied. High carbonation. Alcohol warming on back of tongue. Overall: A nice tripel with some good deep flavors. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Aug 24, 2006 11.2 oz bottle. pours a hazy orange with a big head and the carbonation is very lively. Nice, strong aroma of fruits such as apples, pears, and alot of earthy and spicy yeast. Taste is full bodied across the palate, lightly sweet. Alot of apple, pear and slightly tart citrus along with bready/earthy yeast. It finishes off smoothly with some earthy spicy notes. alcohol can be felt in the stomach, but well hidden throughout the taste. A very good tripel, no doubt. MrBunn (1519), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 22, 2006 Pour is a clear amber, lots of effervescence and a massive frothy head that dies down quicker than most Belgians and has bigger bubbles, too. Aromas of apple juice are hitting me from two feet away as it sits on the desk waiting. As the head dies down and I put the rest in the glass it has taken a slightly darker color an has become murky. Fruit still dominates the nose... maybe white grapes enter the mix on a second sniff. There is good lacing on the sides of the glass as the head dies down. Mouthfeel is fairly heavy. You can tell that the fruity aspects are the main show here, mostly sweet up front with a grain presence following and then a little burst of sourness as the sip fades to a memory. A little more unidimensional than I expected, though as the fruit flavors are definitely the feature. I had wished for a little more complexity of flavoring here... not terribly disappointed, just didn’t live up to my expectations based on other De Dolle products. PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Aug 21, 2006 Updated: Nov 16, 2006Pours a murky, yellowish/light brown with a fizzing and bubbly head which diminishes to a film. Sharp aroma, sweet & fruity with a hint of sourness. Slightly barnyard-like aroma with sour apple suggestions. The flavor is smooth, balanced and amazing. It has suggestions of apples, figs, a drop of belgian yeast and a bit of caramel-like sweetness. Slight toffeeish aspect in the finish, a light and heavenly smooth alcohol warmth on the way down. The alcohol is very well hidden in the flavor, you would never think it’s 10% alcohol from the flavor. Great, lively, tingly mouthfeel. A great triple. arjoseph (594), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 6, 2006 Bottle into De Dolle Oerbier glass, Hop Duvel Cafe, Gent. Golden transluscent orange in the glass with a fizzy white head that mostly diminishes to a dusting. Lacing is thin and oily but uniform. Smells of yeast and decomposing orange peel, cardamom and ginger, muscat grape, Gala apples, and over-ripe apricot. Fizzy at first. Smooth, but vacant when compared to Stille Nacht’s fullness. Tastes of oranges, orange peel, yeast, and warmness. Not much of a finish; at first, there’s alcohol burn, and then it dries out. Moderately good beer, but the alcohol presence is a bit too dominant. Miksu (2187), Jyväskylä, Finland Aug 5, 2006 Bottled. Golden-amber color with large head. Acidic and fruity aroma with notes of white wine and whisky-like phenolics. Very heavily carbonated and full-bodied. Sweet flavor with strong pepper character, banana, chocolate and tart alcohol. Pepper, banana, warming alcohol and some bitterness in the finish. WeeHeavySD (2940), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Aug 3, 2006 Bottle-8/3/06, Purchased at The Market Basket in Rockport Maine. Pours golden, and the head foamed up huge as most De Dolle beers do, and eventually settled to a nice thin layer. The carbonation on the bottle I had seemed very high making it feel a bit like champagne. Slightly bitter lingeringing taste. I love de dolle, but this is one of my least favorites so far, despite the fact that it is very good.
