4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 MesandSim (7109) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 13, 2010
A Mes rate. From somewhere hidden away in the back of De Dolle. HUGE thanks to Kris for just appearing and putting this on the table. Milky lemon yellow colour with no head at all. Big floral and yeasty aroma with some bacon fat and lots of yeast. It’s actually tremendously floral. The flavour is ridiculous. I’m struggling to describe this, it’s so far removed from what I know as beer. Stunning lemon and Pinot Noir, gloriously tart, slightly acidic and just beautifully fruity all round. The more I drink the better it gets. Something tells me if I drank enough of this, it would end up with a 5. It’s the best of both the wine and beer worlds. Big and assertive, yet soft, elegant and refined. Absolutely my sort of beer. Kris, I really appreciate the opportunity to try this.

Special sample from Kris, thank you. Hazy straw color with a very small off white head. Aroma is complex with yeast, honey, straw, oak and spices. Flavors of wild yeast, herbs, vanilla, vintage oak woods and spices. Low carbonation, light bitter and sour dry finish. Reminds me of some nice old gueuzes and white wines. Love the long lasting oak wood flavors. Really great brew.

UPDATED: APR 19, 2011 Tasting at ZBF. Hazy yellow color with a small white head. Aroma is complex with some yeast, orange peel, musty, malt and a nice fight between lactic sourness and sweet candy sugar. The taste is a very impressive fight between the sweet white candy sugar and the lactic sourness. There is also a musty acetic taste from the brett with some citrus. Aftertaste is a little bit dry like a lambic and the mouthfeel is sticky. In my opinion the best beer from ZBF 2010 and a very good experiment!

Tasting at Zythos Beer Festival.
Hazy yellow colored one with a small white head. Complex aroma with citrusses, orange peel, must, fine yeast, malt and a pleasant balance between sourness and fruity sweetness. Fruity flavor with citrusses and some tart-sour vinegar, and a must-like sweetness.. Some lambic and fruity aftertaste, yes, the mouthfeel is sticky. Nice experiment!!!

Draught at Zythos Beer Festival 2010. Cloudy orange yellow, medium white head, decent lacing. Aroma of rising bread, orange peel. Taste is sweet-sour, full bodied, with apricot and peach skins. A successful experiment, I think.

@ ZBF on tap. Pours a glowing bright hazy yellow with a decent temporary white head. Sour citrus aroma. Taste is lactic, nice fresh lime pulp tartness with some prominent booziness. Fun to try!

Draught Small, receding white head with some lace, over hazy yellow orange beer. Grains, wild fruit, vinous nose. Sourish, vinous again, lactic and dried citrus. Medium bodied if thinning out, refreshing, long sourish aftertaste. Lipsmacking sourishness. Interesting. Very much so. But is it commercialy viable outside the US, Italy and Denmark?

Tap at ZBF. Honey malt and light pepper aroma. Cloudy yellow with small head. Sweet peach/apple flavor. Medium body. Nice easy drinking beer - I really didn’t get much sourness in this one though.
