3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle (330 ml). Black with a huge frothy brown head and some lacing. Aroma is of Belgian yeast, roasted malt, liquorice, chocolate and grapes/winey notes. Taste is also quite Belgian with yeast, liquorice, roasted malt, chocolate, grapes/winey notes and light bitterness. Medium body. Moderate/medium carbonation. Slightly mouthfeel. Long lasting fruity (mostly grapes) finish with a touch of alcohol. Good complexity as it’s almost always the case with De Dolle. Quite tasty. Balance isn’t bad either. Interesting for sure.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a jet black with a very foamy off-white head. Aroma is oak and malts. I also get a very strong oak flavor, as though this was aged in bourbon barrels for a while. There are some roasted malts, chocolate, and a decent amount of bitterness. While I do like this, it also comes off as a bit much in terms of the combination of oak and bitterness. There’s a touch of sweetness that goes too far, in a way, but another part that makes it a very nice sipper as it warms up.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 18 months old. Dark brown with a huge foamy beige head. Aroma - dishwater, yeast, slight smoke, touch of booze. Body - medium to light, low carbonation, quite foamy. Taste - dank caramel, sweet date, red berries, milky coffee, finishes dry and tart with some alcohol. A bit weird - it has a sharp tartness that I assume isn’t meant to be there. Drinkable (slowly).

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
on tap @ Taste of Belgium / Cincinnati OH --- Opaque black/brown with a full 3" head that never goes away, wisps of lace. Taste is musty sweet malt, but it quickly becomes bitter roasted chocolate, adding effervescence in the finish. A full bodied brew, great for sipping.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours an almost black liquid with little head. Very easy drinking for a stout and the aftertaste is almost never ending. Tastes of coffee, and burnt barley - maybe a little too bitter but pretty much bang on. A very good example from such a varied brewery
