Bottle from Dranken Verheyen in Poppel. The beer is almost black colored and has a nice cream colored head, with livingly CO2. The aroma is malty, sweet and spicy and has notes of caramel, liquorice, roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee. The taste starts sweets with tones of malts, caramel and chocolate and changes into a nice and medium bitterness with tones of hazelnuts, espresso and roasted malts. In the finish the strong coffee (espresso) comes back and leaves a dry taste.

UPDATED: MAY 2, 2016 33cl bottle, vintage 2014. Served in snifter glass. Poured a very dark brown, almost black with a 4 finger light brown head, very little carbonation. Waited a while for the head to dissipate to get to the aromas. Aromas of licorice, dark fruits, caramel, dark chocolate, vanilla, nuts, port, oak, pipe smoke. Taste: currants, licorice, black fruits, dark chocolate, vanilla, espresso, spices, caramel fudge, whole wheat raisin bread, walnuts, some sour notes in the back as found in the ’Oerbier’, very vinous almost portlike. Full body with a quite dry espresso and dark chocolate finish. Very sticky on the palate. Overall a very good, quite unusual stout from De Dolle Brouwers who have given their own ’dolle’ twist to this beerstyle.

Keg at La Capsule, Lille, France. Very dark brown with cream head. There is a full on darkly roasted malt body to this, quite heavy on the palate with a roast nut character. Quite complex with fruity hints and a light herby flavour then liquorice. Very enjoyable.

33cl bottle. Cloudy very dark brown (rather than black). Fruity aroma of sour cherries, bitter chocolate. Highly sweet with a sour caracter. For me it is a carbonated version of a Struise Pannepot, very much more like a pannepot than a stout.
