Pours an almost black liquid with little head. Very easy drinking for a stout and the aftertaste is almost never ending. Tastes of coffee, and burnt barley - maybe a little too bitter but pretty much bang on. A very good example from such a varied brewery

On Keg at North, pours black withe a foamy tan head. Chocolate and coffee with dried fruit flavours, cherries, plums. Light body for the abv and goes down very nicely for 9% abv. Finish is balanced. Carbonation lively for a strong stout.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at Novari Res. Pours black with a lasting creamy beige head but leaves only a bit of lacing, Aroma is caramel, roasted malts, chocolate and coffee in that order. Medium to thick body, average carbonation, medium to heavy sweet, light bitterness in taste, oily texture and a dry bitter and sweet finish. Excellent.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep black with big thick tan head. Raspberries, grapes, green apples, some chocolate and coffee, funk, roasted malts, liquorice. Big complex fruity tartness, with an underlying sweetness and nice roasted bitter finish. Mediun to full bodied, nice full carbonation. Not a typical stout, but great complexity, especially in the taste. Love it.

Bu à la pression en 33cl à la brasserie, couleur noire avec une grosse mousse onctueuse, odeur de grillée et de caramel, en bouche on ressent surtout le bon café fraîchement torréfié, une tuerie encore...

Bottle @The Vintage, Leith. Pours black with a good tan head. Fruit nose but light, not a big nose but what you do get is lovely. Raisins and other dark fruits a little prickle from the cO2 on the palate. Hints of licorice, coffee and chocolate but a big dollop of fruit, nice.

Tonight with a few friends I opened a 2004, 2008, and 2013 vintage of this beer. I have already known from previous experience that this beer seems to age exceptionally well, especially for its not particularly very high abv. What is a very respectable and well-balanced stout in the fresh version turns into something magical in the older versions. On the first tasting, I felt the 2008 was the uncontested champion, but as a sipped more, the 2004 seemed more and more a contender. No off-tastes or anything unpleasant even in the ten year old version. What a terrific beer, and there is no better argument for the potential benefits of carefully aging certain beers then this extra export stout.
