Opaque brownish black beer, with humongous dense light-tan head like the froth on a good espresso except, as I said, humongous.Aroma of yeast, dried fruit, some slight alcohol, and an inexplicable woodiness. Flavor is full of dried fruit and some chocolate, with a typical Belgian yeast funk and grassy hops that contribute little bitterness. I taste suprisingly little roast or alcohol. Voluptuously full-bodied. By far the best beer I’ve had in a while.

Bottle, no date on cap. Black with a tan head that fades to a fat coat. Aroma of dark berries, chocolate, cigar box (all very Cab Sauv) roasted malt, some coffee. Medium bodied, carbonation just on the high side of moderate. Much more stouty taste, roasted barely, chicory, but the vinous notes are there and so is some sour cherry and maybe a bit of Dubbin. Dry and quite bitter as well as a bit sour at the end. A sipper. Complex, yes, and the stout/ fruity and vinous aspects pop in and out of prominence intriguingly, but didn’t hang together. After about half an hour, there’s the licorice.

2015/11/17 - Pours a very dark brown (almost jet black) with a thick, frothy, tan head that slowly reduces and leaves minimal lacing. Crazy gusher. Aroma is sweet malt, dark chocolate, espresso, slightly nutty and licorice. Taste is candied sugar, licorice, sweet malt and espresso with notes of dark chocolate and dark fruits. Mouthfeel is medium with high carbonation and a mildly warming, super dry finish. Really good stuff. Wish I had known that this would be gusher before opening. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Black color with huge beige head. Aroma is dark malts, liquorice, dark fruits, candied sugar, Belgian sweetness. Taste is overwhelmingly intense: more fruits, but tart fruits, cherry syrup, candied sugar, burnt sugar below, dark malts, nuts, goes down the throat with a warming fruity finish. Soothing, but high carbonation. It?s like you?re drinking foam (comparable to a Westvleteren, just not as pleasant). The sweetness works out. Uncompromising and daring, which is why we love De Dolle! The only thing to criticize is the high carbonation, really. And maybe you don’t liie the sweetness, but I think it fits.

practically black colour, extremely huge, though not really dense dark beige head; aroma of coffee, overripe sour cherry (valami cigánymeggy féle lenne leginkább - ha valaki tud, segítsen ki, hogy lehetne ezt legjobban kifejezni angolul), some ash, dark chocolate, maybe some minimal herbal notes, as well; taste of roasted coffe, burnt woody notes, overripe sour cherry (ismét csak ;-) ) and some chocolate; great stout!

In bottiglia. Colore marrone scura, schiuma marroncino abbondante, fine e persistente.

0.33 l bottle from Firma Bier, bottled in July 2014 (a bit over a year old). Clear, very dark red with a very large, foamy, stable, brown head. Roasty, fruity-malty aroma of praline, dried dark fruits, blackberries and coffee. Sweetish, fruity-malty taste of dark cherries, blackberries, dark chocolate, roasted nuts and coffee, followed by a long, medium bitter, coffeish and minimally sourish finish with oaky notes. Medium body, effervescent mouthfeel, very lively carbonation. The faint but pleasant aroma only slightly indicates the intensitivity of the taste. Unfortunately, its highly overcarbonated, thus lacking drinkability a bit. The highlight is the rather bitter and sourish finish.

330ml bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, dark dried fruits and some liquorice. Flavour is sweet and light bitter. Medium bodied, thin texture, soft carbonation. Finish is plain and a bit boring.

De Dolle Export Stout Bottle from Ghent shared in Osaka. Deep black with a massive pillowy beige head and a huge Rich savoury roasty oat aroma. The taste is chocolate & licorice, a bit sour and thin bodied. Really interesting.

Pours a deep black with a medium-high beige head that leaves nice lacing. Nose is of alcohol, coffee, ash with a restrained fruitiness (dark-ish fruits). Taste is dry and features the fruits quite a bit more. It all integrates well with the roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Moderately bitter. Body is medium, carbonation moderately high and it is surprisingly drinkable. Almost sour, that must help. Overall a really nice stout by De Dolle and pretty much what I imagined it would be. God I love this brewery!
