4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 bhensonb (8995) - Woodland, California, USA - AUG 6, 2006
Strangely dusky notes, along with chocolate and coffee. The aroma is complex. It’s so dark, the color could be black. The head is massive and it is persistent. The flavor is wonderful, but it is hard to describe. It starts with a surge of aroma, going to a slight hint of chocolate. There is an underlying sour component. Bitterness accompanies the malt, preventing sweetness. It’s wonderful, but not very simple.

Pours a huge frothy head. Opague. Roasted malt, licorice and tropical fruitin teh rich aroma. Sweet flavor with an upcoming tartness. Loads of licorice. Roasted malt. Some tropical fruit. A total abundance of flavors in this great foreign stout, with very much an own character.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 madsberg (8811) - Søborg, DENMARK - OCT 27, 2004
Bottled @ Plan B, Copenhagen: Dark brown almost black coloured. Dense medium sized chocolate brown head. Awesome looks. Fruit, ligth alcahol, coffe and roast notes in the aroma. Flavour is very sharp and offensive. Loads of liqourice and very roasted. Not as smooth, as I prefer, but still quite pleasant. Ends on a fruity liqouricenote with a light alcaholburnt on the palate. This is a difficult beer. Somehow I like it, but it sure has its dark sides.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Tmoney99 (8784) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - NOV 1, 2007
Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured a black color with a huge frothy brown head that lasted and produced good lacing. Good roasted malt and dark fruit aroma. Full body with a smooth sticky texture. Complex roasted dark fruit stout flavor with a medium bittersweet smooth finish of moderate duration. Very well balanced dark fruity stout.

ZBF 2008

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 hopscotch (8215) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - OCT 13, 2004
This beer rocks!... Pours extremely dark with hazy, copper highlights when held up to bright light. Huge, frothy, khaki-colored head. Maybe a bit overcarbonated. Great retention and thick, cumulus lacework. The nose is of chocolate, leather, espresso, caramel and dried plum. The flavor is almost port-like. Very well-bittered with burnt, earthy notes. Also, big notes of dried plum, port, alcohol and pear. Full-bodied with a fizzy mouthfeel. Lengthy, alcoholic finish with more dried plum. Dries out at the wee end. World class stout!
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Bov (8204) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - MAY 9, 2005
dark black colour, giant dense creamy and slightly brown-tainted foam, deep and toasty aroma of black chocolate, notes of bread, raisins and cookies, also a touch of alcohol and licorice, oily and creamy mouthfeel, solid malt body, some bitterness before a powerful chocoltey, cookie aftertaste and warming alcohol notes - perfectly made and deeply enjoyable
