Strangely dusky notes, along with chocolate and coffee. The aroma is complex. Itís so dark, the color could be black. The head is massive and it is persistent. The flavor is wonderful, but it is hard to describe. It starts with a surge of aroma, going to a slight hint of chocolate. There is an underlying sour component. Bitterness accompanies the malt, preventing sweetness. Itís wonderful, but not very simple.

Black, small beige head. Toffee aroma. Rich burnt taste - very aromatic hops and winey too. Massive burnt aftertaste.
Rerate: 330ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki)
Aroma is muchos muchos liquorice. Phil gets soy sauce too. Itís aq very rich aroma with a roast motif, certainly. Black, nice head. Remarkably light in the mouth. Quite carbonated, not a surprise considering the source. Nice finish, leaves you wondering how they managed to make a 9% beer so not heavy. Alas, Anna didnít write any numbers down, she was scribing this one. So weíll have to wait for the bottle we have at home to get a numerical 2nd opinion.

Bottle from Riverís Bend. Poured a black color with a huge frothy brown head that lasted and produced good lacing. Good roasted malt and dark fruit aroma. Full body with a smooth sticky texture. Complex roasted dark fruit stout flavor with a medium bittersweet smooth finish of moderate duration. Very well balanced dark fruity stout.

Bottle poured a nearly opaque brownish black with a LARGE lasting tan head. Aromas of yeast, bitter chocolate, a bit of licorice and hints of dark fruit. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of sour yeast, bitter chocolate, light licorice and a hint of espresso with a lingering sweet finish. Not a bad stout but it needs more body.

Keg at La Capsule, Lille, France. Very dark brown with cream head. There is a full on darkly roasted malt body to this, quite heavy on the palate with a roast nut character. Quite complex with fruity hints and a light herby flavour then liquorice. Very enjoyable.

Black body with just a hint of red, topped by big beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, roasty, cookie dough, chocolate, alcohol, some caramel, light grape. Taste is rich, chocolate, cookie, molasses, caramel, some vinous. Finish is strong alcohol warming. Thick, full body. Great individual characteristics present, but they donít add up to a beer I love -- I think the alcohol detracts here.

Bottle. Creamy light borwn excellent fully lasting head. Brown colour. Moderate malty and heavy hoppy aroma. Really great. Moderate bitter flavor but too powerfull coffee-notes. Long finish. Oily palate but way too fizzy.

Black stout with a thick creamy moka head. Wonderful vinous chocolate with earthy rather Belgian style. Sour chocolate in mouth, with good hops notes and some coriander. Rich and enjoyable. Tasted Spring 2006.

100% black with a big frothy off-white head. Traditional roast stout aromas of licorice, chocolate and coffee as well as some fruity notes of dates, raisins and perhaps cherry. Complex dark flavours follows the nose, some acid, some bitterness and a touch too much alcohol prescence. What the commercial description happily calls "very lively on the tongue", Iíll call too much carbonation that takes away from the flavour.
