flutetokill (499), Fresno, California, USA Mar 25, 2005 Very dark brown color with a medium light brown head. Strong coffee, belgian candy sugar, chocolate, malt and bourbon aroma and flavors. Fairly thick feel with a slightly dry finish. Very nice!
RIXbeer (102), USA Nov 28, 2008 Pours a dark chestnut/chocolate brown with no light penetration. 3+ fingers of head. HOLY WOW THAT’S SOME HEAD! Huge smell of prunes, chocolate, a hint of molasses and some licorice. Has that Belgian "Funk" as I call it. I’m not sure this is a stout. I don’t care, smells great! Deep rich chocolate and molasses covered prunes. This is a brew that has been blessed by the gods. There are hints of mint and licorice along side with a hint of anise and some bitter chocolate. A+ Taste! OMG this beer makes me want to guzzle, but I think twice and enjoy each and every sip. This beer is creamy and smooth. it’s a lot like cream itself except it is beer, a really really great beer. Another hit by De Dolle! Very drinkable! I am in love with this beer and I strongly believe that a little cellaring time will only enhance this mystical brew! Thank you De Dolle! Travlr (115), Washington, Washington DC, USA Nov 26, 2008 Chewy, chocolatey, bitter, thick stout in the American style. Reminds me of Bell’s Expedition Stout. Should age very well. aplusbreaks (128), , Colorado, USA Nov 26, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown/brown with a fizzy carbonated 1 inch head. Aromas of roasted malts, cocoa, and a bit of espresso. Flavors are dry, bittersweet cocoa, roasted malts and a touch of hops. Long fizzy finish. Homer321 (120), Rockledge, Florida, USA Nov 20, 2008 smells like a funky stout. not like other belgian stouts I have had. very malty smell. lots of chocolate - and FUNK. crazy lacing, underlying earthy herb type taste. puckering. and interesting beer that everyone should try. but onlly buy one bottle espenra (158), Oslo, Norway Nov 19, 2008 33cl bottle from Barley Wine. It poured a pitch black colour with a huge
beige foamy head that settled down slowly in the glass leaving about a
finger height roof. The aroma is acidious but is also heavy on the coffee.
The flavour is also acidious and reminds me of a sour ale. The flavour
tastes of coffee, roasted malts and a hint of vinegar(!?). It has a
lingering aftertaste.
