4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Mortlach (436) - Rome, ITALY - FEB 16, 2012
16/02/2012 Bir&Fud Bottega (330ml bottle). Dorata, brillante, vivissima, riflessi color pesca, inusuale perlage, schiuma bianca abbondante e persistente.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 77ships (976) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - FEB 12, 2012
33 cl. bottle split @ Kulminator: the bottle is graces by a lovely artwork created by the brewery & bears a “De Dolle” bowtie, served into two gorgeous dolle tasting glasses, it pours a clear and sparkling golden with a big fluffy white head, truly a beautiful looking beer, smells very inviting, very sharp, clean and crisp with the typical dolle yeast, strong esters and a strong spice quality to it which veers into herbal direction, the taste continuous in the same direction, very clean with a sharp bitterness coupled with the dolle yeast, this has a slight fruitiness to it with slight apple, strong esters, the finish leads to what could be describes as being spices but to me this tastes very herbal with a strong medicinal quality, leading up into a finish of medicinal bitterness and definite alcohol presence, this is very light and highly drinkable and strongly carbonated by my own standards and preferences but in a very nice suiting way, I don’t think that De Dolle makes any bad beers, they are to me unquestionably one of the worlds greatest breweries and this one is another winner
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 FatPhil (6207) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 30, 2012
330ml bottle (BierKompass.de)
6 Rather simple belgian blond aroma, slight herbal and bitter, like fresh bracken growth in a wood.
4 Mid gold, lovely large spongy white head. I was clear, Anna had some slight haze.
7 Herbal aspects, and the barky bitterness come straight out in the retronasals, the breadiness of the malts is only low, and there are very little aromatics - this is a singularly bitter blond. Anna’s hazy one was a bit mellower, and more nutty, and we preferred hers. So I added a tiny splash of the sludge to mine.
4 Good bitter bite, better than your average Belgian. Woody and honey in the late finish, maybe a bit of breakfast cereals - a touch nutty with walnut papers. Drying bitterness does become quite tongue-scraping quite soon. Some liquoricey aspects to that.
14 I swore when I saw this was 9%. To me, there was basically no alcohol at all, and even after my swearing and jaw dropping Anna underestimated the strength. Nice to see Belgians use plenty of hops, and this is a good example of a brewery that can do that effortlessly.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jedwards (10) - Rhode Island, USA - OCT 20, 2011
Thanks to claaark13 for bringing this back from Belgium. Original review 06-16-2011
Poured into my Oerbier glass. Huge rocky head characteristic of Belgian golden ales, with some of the tight structure of other De Dolle beers. Reduces to two or three fingers of pillow-y foam. Beer itself is a slightly hazy reddish gold.
Smell is spicy hops and lemon pith, a bit of yeast. Taste has a big hop presence on the front end, lots of spice and pepper, and a bit of a honey/malty backbone with a long-lasting bitter finish. Doesn’t come off as dry as many of the other Belgian golden ales do, but the hop presence prevents it from being overly sweet. Typical creamy De Dolle carbonation, but the bitterness and a slight boozy quality cut through that.
Really solid beer. I’d say I want them to bring it to the USA, but it would be a sin to let this sit around on shelves.
