beerbrat99 (119), Portland, Oregon, USA Feb 3, 2008 2006 bottle. Pours a deep red/brown with some haze that isn’t distracting. Nice head that is red in color. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of cherry, oak, pears and tartness that tingles the nose. The taste is dominated by tartness, cherry and oak character. The finish is sour and dry. A very pleasant flanders beer that doesn’t seem high alcohol at at. Excellent beer!
skippapotamus (29), USA Nov 20, 2008 2008 version.
Bottle pours deep burgundy with slightly pink tinted tan head. Average head but solid retention. Nose is definitely dark fruit (cherry, grape) and perfume, strong but pleasing.
flavors include plum, cherry, and slight Saaz spiciness including black and white pepper.
Thin body, tart, dryish. Refining in bottle to the degree of attenuation has thinned it out compared to many Belgians, but not displeasingly. Finish is sour and somewhat lactic with slight cherry aftertaste. jeremytoni (637), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Nov 20, 2008 From a bottle poured a light amber color with a small head. Nice tart flavor with a lasting finish. jujubeast6000 (536), Houston, USA Nov 19, 2008 Rated 11/17/2008 (labeled 2007, bottle marked 2008-13%): Pours a very cloudy, very dark reddish brown body. Big pillowy creamy light tan head. Good lacing, and lasting, leaving a nice lacing. Very floral aroma, perfumy, dark fruit, plum, dark grape. Spices too, not a very heavy aroma. Sour, apples and pears. Watery palate. Sweet, light fruit, slightly acidic. Carbonated and drying in the mouth.Fruity and hides the alcohol well. Tart. Been wanting to try this for a while now.
Pours a dark reddish brown in color. There’s a nice frothy half inch of head sitting atop and sticking around for some time.
Smell is caramel, toffee and some tart/sourness.
Taste is much more sour than I was expecting and I love it. What a pleasant surprise. Very nice light fruit flavor with a huge amount of tartness. Mouthfeel is full and creamy with the perfect amount of carbonation to match the tartness. There is absolutely, positively no sign of the alcohol which makes this beer even better.
Amazing. I want to pick up some more, but for $9 a 11oz bottle, I’m going to have to think about it. nick76 (2110), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 18, 2008 2007. The aroma is sour and sweet. There is brown sugar, grain, sour fruit, and yeast. The appearance is orange brown with a nice head. The flavor is like the aroma but I am not a fan. The palate is smooth but thin. Overall not one I want again.
