rmalloy (178), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA Jul 12, 2007 I expected this to be great, but I found it next to awful. It had surprisingly little aroma. For some reason it smelled like Sprite or 7Up: it’s like you could smell the heavy carbonation and the overall sourness. Taste was heavy sour apple, sour cherry, and nasty oak, rolling into unimaginably sour complexities. I like sour ales and lambics, but this stuff is horrific. The high rating shocks me.
m4rest88 (107), Beverly Hills, California, USA Nov 27, 2008 2007 bottle. Pours a dark brown - almost burgundy color with virtually no head. The bottle fizzes and overflows a bit, but once you pour the beer the fizziness goes away and it is almost flat.
Aroma is of cherry’s and grapes - sour dark fruits, and some spiceness. Flavor is of prunes, pepper, and citrus - namely limes and lemons. Beer starts off slightly sweet then finishes on a slightly sour bitter note. The sourness of the beer definitely comes through pretty strongly.
Medium body with virtually no carbonation. A great brew and definitely worth being my 100th rating! djtimeless (56), Florida, USA Nov 27, 2008 Pours out reddish brown ale, with thin tan head. Smell is sweet and funky. Taste is fruity with some mild tartness. Smooth and dry with no alcohol burn. Tasty, with high drinkability for a 13% brew. skippapotamus (29), USA Nov 20, 2008 2008 version.
Bottle pours deep burgundy with slightly pink tinted tan head. Average head but solid retention. Nose is definitely dark fruit (cherry, grape) and perfume, strong but pleasing.
flavors include plum, cherry, and slight Saaz spiciness including black and white pepper.
Thin body, tart, dryish. Refining in bottle to the degree of attenuation has thinned it out compared to many Belgians, but not displeasingly. Finish is sour and somewhat lactic with slight cherry aftertaste. jeremytoni (638), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Nov 20, 2008 From a bottle poured a light amber color with a small head. Nice tart flavor with a lasting finish. jujubeast6000 (551), Houston, Texas, USA Nov 19, 2008 Rated 11/17/2008 (labeled 2007, bottle marked 2008-13%): Pours a very cloudy, very dark reddish brown body. Big pillowy creamy light tan head. Good lacing, and lasting, leaving a nice lacing. Very floral aroma, perfumy, dark fruit, plum, dark grape. Spices too, not a very heavy aroma. Sour, apples and pears. Watery palate. Sweet, light fruit, slightly acidic. Carbonated and drying in the mouth.Fruity and hides the alcohol well. Tart.
