COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. Gushing.

Test vom 2.2.2009, Gebinde: Glasflasche

Smells malty and fruity (red and citrus.) Pretty dark reddish brown in color with a teal cream head. A strong sweet flavor dominates this beer; it tastes like sugar, malt, cherry, and both red and white wine. It fades into champagne. The aftertaste had whiskey notes and you taste the 9% throughout and after. Unique in its sourness compared to other Belgian strongs i have had.

On draft. Not sure what happened. Started out really good. Foamy head, beautiful magenta color, and subtle dried forest fruit and caramel aromas. Nice malt balance and clean finish with bing cherry notes...but then 3/4 through some unpleasing funk crept in mainly on the taste. Dirty tap lines?

0.33l bottle. Pours a completely cloudy brown-murky body with a big lasting fluffy off-white head leaving good lacing. Has a little alcohol in the aroma along with dark fruits, raisin, figs and a near spicy and herbal touch. Lively carbonated, medium bodied and has a oily and slightly sticky texture. Really nice and complex brew this. You can sense the alcohol with a mild stingy aftertaste, more raisins, some woody cherries and lots of nice dark fruity flavors with plums and figs. A perfect combo with some good sharp cheese.

33 cl. bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. Very hazy dark brown colour with red hues. Very large head, that settles very slowly to a thick cap. Aromas: A lot of Belgian yeast here! Big amounts of dark fruits like plums and dates. The malts are very present, with caramel and toffee. Dark fruits are also present in taste, combined with notes of anis.Light sweetness, little/flat carbonation, full body, long lasting finish, with a nice warming feeling from the alcohol. A very complex beer, that deserves a high rating!
