COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. Very morish and well executed beer. The sort of beer you’d be happy to drink everyday. Small head, between ruby and brown in colour. Aroma of sweet caramel, balancing bitterness and spice. The flavour is more bitter, with toasted notes and caramel, and a rounded fruity finish. Full body and soft palate.

Poured a deep brown color with a large light-tan head. Aroma is very tart and fruity with lots of yeast. Some doughy notes with cheese as well. Taste is also pretty tart with dark fruit and brown sugar. Finish has a really nice kick of caramel and chocolate. Overall the body is slightly creamy and the balance is perfect between the sweet malt flavors and the tart from the yeast and the bitterness from the hops. Great ale.

33 cl bottle, pours reddish with a nice big head, plenty of lacings and solid retention, aroma of yeast, fruit, sugar and malt, taste follows the nose but with a sligt tartness, smooth mouthfeel, super beer.

Started talking to another BA’er about this and then found it the same day. Beautiful frothy 4 finger head with an aggressive pour. Appearance is a bit cloudy, amber, iced tea middle color. Froth settles into nice foam. Nose is fairly typical. Lots of Belgian yeast, candi sugar, citrus mixed with fruit and a hint of moss. Taste is a bit maltier than expected. Lots of Earthy, yeasty bread overtones. Some phenolic banana, and hints of fig. As it oxidizes I’m getting some cloying sourness. Finish and aftertaste is a little dry, sour. Feels syrupy and fairly high carbonation. Not as "hot" as many fresh Belgians. Aging could mellow it a bit, but it doesn’t seem carbonated enough to last more than a year or two before going full-on treacle. Not bad. Would like to taste their version of a Quad.

330 mL bottle. Gushes upon opening. Pours a hazy brown to the point of opacity, with an off-white head. Tart cherry and berry aroma. Flavor is kind of a combination of raspberry, red cherry, and red grape, some chocolate, a little spice and molasses. Fine palate, neither too light nor too heavy. It’s just too bad I lost some of it to the foam.

330ml bottle. This thing was a gusher. Pours a reddish brown color with huge foamy off-white head that faded quickly. The nose is very fruity, there is a nice subtle cherry aroma, and yeasty with some carmelized sugar notes. The taste is sort of sweet. You get the fruity belgian yeast flavor and some caramel malts. I expected a slight tartness after picking up on cherries in the aroma but that is no where to be found sadly.

Bottle from Drink of Fulham. It pours cloudy mahogany, with a very thin beige head and lively carbonation. The nose is marzipan, date, fig, raisin, sweet caramel, dried pineapple, strawberry, blueberry and wood. The taste is date, raisin, fig, cherry, lemon, lime, pineapple, oak, smoke, a little astringency, leather, tobacco and cocoa. It has a really foamy mouth-feel and a very long warming finish. It’s complex, very well balanced and utterly drinkable.

Enjoyable strong beer with a nice flavour. Apparently brewed from six different malts, wonder if it makes that much a difference.
